Show We don t believe in persecuting a person nor do we hold with anything that approaches the semblance of "hounding," and we have all sympathy in the world for the man or woman, boy or g rlj who inadvertently sidesteps the provisions of the law for the first time, and do not believe in holding him or her up to the public gaze of a newspaper's reader-. In fact, we have always tried to shield such persons as much as circumstances cir-cumstances would possibly permit and will continue to do so in the future. But we have mighty little pity or sympathy for the person of sound body ' and mind who persistently breaks the ' laws of the community in which he lives. Laws, and penalities iVr breaking the i same, are not placed on the statute j books, we hope, with any idea that they are to be broken ivhnm' and where one desires, nor or they placed there to be whimsically brushed aside or forgotten (?) by those trusted with their enforcement, enforce-ment, urul the person who repeatedly insists on breaking such laws and ordinances ordin-ances can exp-ct .htile sympathy from anyone who respects and honors those same laws. A chroma law-breaker is a very dangerous dan-gerous asset (?) in a community, not alone for the direct evils of his lawlessness, law-lessness, but also for the fact that there are many in a community who need but the example of a man who I ughs at the law lo transform otherwise law-abulin law-abulin persons into law-breakers, and this is something no community can stand for. It is rapidly coming to be thoroughly recognized by everyone th;i,l the day of saving a few dollars for the community at the expense of letting the boys and girls get well started on their way to sure perdition, is, to say the least, very poor business judgment. As we said bel'ore, the person who persistently breaks the laws of a communityfully com-munityfully aware of the penalty and publicity his lawless acts are sure to bring upon himself and others can expect ex-pect nothing in the way of protection from the lull reward of his evil-doing in the matter of heavy penalties or full exposition to the public view of his fellow fel-low citizens. |
