Show FARMERS' ROlTiD-'JP AT LOCAN, JAN. 18-30 As many people have asked me questions ques-tions concerning the Farmers' Roundup Round-up and House-keepers' conference held at the Utah Agricultural College this year, since my return, I have felt probably pro-bably it might be well to write a little article for our local papers. Before mentioning about the conference, confer-ence, however, I want to take this opportunity op-portunity to pay tribute to those excel - lent students that Carbon and Emery I counti-'s are sending to the Utah Agri-' Agri-' culture college, also to their good par-i par-i ents, who are working so laboriously to ' assist in sending them to this grand institution in-stitution of learning. Every one of these students is making good, and carrying off many honors at the institution, in-stitution, which their efforts alone are winning for them. If I may do so, and yet not be personal, I want to say that while in Logan I was privileged to see 'Milestones,' a drama put on by ten of the Utah Agricultural students. Mr. Lowry Nelson, one of our Ferron boys, j played the leading role, and it was the ' concensus of opinion that Lowry played : his part better than many, many professionals pro-fessionals coul I have done. The Farmers' Round-up and House-! House-! keepers conference was a grand suc-1 suc-1 cess this year, the registration running j higher than it has done in past years. Tnis, together with the jreat interest shown by the farmers and the housewives house-wives give evidence of the stride that industrial education is making in the hearts of the people. Every day of the entire conference wasoneofmuch imparted knowledge, and of great interest to those who assembled as-sembled to listen. Men and women of nation-wide reputation such as Liberty Hyde Bailey, C. E. Bassett, Dr. John A. Widtsoe, our worthy president; Dr. A. E. Winship ot Boston, Prof. D. A. Brodie, assistant chief of the office of ! Farm Management, U. S. D. A.; Prof. C. B. Smith, O. H. Benson, D. W. ' Working, Prof. W. H. Olin, Mrs. Nellie , j Kedzie Jones and many other big men I and women were on the program this , ' year. To have heard any one of these addresses was a privilege worth much . j to any one. . I It was pleasing to note that we had j two representatives from Emery coun- I ty, and three from Carbon county who i attended the confer nee. Another year J (Continued on page 8) il FARMERS' UND-UP AT ! LOGAN, JAN. 1 8-30 i (Continued from page 1) j m:iny more should avail themselves of this opportunity. If we will hold together as a people ' in Eastern Utah it is very probable that we might be able to have a Fanners' Round-up in one of these counties next year. This will bring the work closer! to us so that many people will be able to attend. i The Utah Agricultural college officials send their appreciation to the good peo- j pie of Carbon and Emery counties for the great interest they are taking in agriculture; and they are going to give us every attention they possibly can. Very respectfully, ROBERT H. STEWART, County Agriculturist. |
