Show IQ CThe Salt Lake Tribune. Friday. June S.L. Briefs Area Births Jury Dismisses Sex Bias Case claim of sex discrimination filed against the University of Utah has been rejected by a U.S. District Court for Utah jury who found no cause of action in the case. The decision came in a civil suit filed by Dr. Rita Artz, who had sought damages of $700,000. She claimed she was fired from the universitys Sociology Department because of her sex. She was employed by the school starting with the 1972-7- 3 school year. She later received her doctorate and became an assistant professor in the spring of 1974. She quit to go to New York and later came back to her job at the university. It was later recommended that Dr. Artz and other female faculty members be terminated. However, a committee of graduate and undergraduate students had recommended she be retained. Department Chairman Lee L. Bean recommended that a termination contract for one year be offered to A Dr. Artz. The decision in the case came in a jury trial conducted by Judge Aldon J. Anderson.
