Hayes today in Seattle. your folk dancing with Romanian workshop Brush-u- p Have you always wanted to folk dance and never had the chance Next weekend youll have the opportunity. The University of Utah International Folk Dance Club is sponsoring a Romanian folk dance workshop Saturday and April 3 from 1 30 to 4 p m. in the West Ballroom of the University Union Building The special guest teacher at the workshop will be Mihai David, a former member of the Custo.i Ballet, and currently dancing with the Bessarabia Folk Ballet in Los Angeles Mr David has ben a featured teacher at folk dance workshops from east to west m both Canada for and the Umted States. He has served as several years at the Santa Barbara Folk Dance Symposium and last year spent a week m Seattle Folklore and Dances conducting a workshop, of Romania At the University workshop, the emphasis will be on dances for beginners Saturday, and on Sunday, the emphasis will be on intermediate dances. The University Folk Dance Club also sponsors a vU$ Sfe' SOU. imu SAT. 0ILY dancing session each Monday night in the West Ballroom of the Umon Building Anyone is invited to attend There is no age limit According to spokeswoman for the group, Ellen Monahan, 30 to 50 dancers attend the dances each week Emphasis is on all kind of folk dances, including, Russian, Balkan. Turkish, German and Scandinavian "Some of the dances are very easy, some are very difficult But there is always someone there who can teach the dances, said Miss Monahan Adrian Ruiz, a longtime member of the folk dance club says, "Everyone can enjoy folk dancing And unlike so many dances, you dont have to have couples only. It really is more a recreation There are so many line dances that are folk dance standards.
