SPARROW-KILLING CONTEST BEGINS MONDAY MORNING A big sparrow-killing contest between be-tween Castledale east- and west-siders begins next Monday morning, the contest con-test to last until Tuesday of the week following, the side poisoning and collecting col-lecting the greatest number of spugs to be the guests of the losing side at a big dance. Plans for the contest were formulated formulat-ed at the meeting of the local farmers club held at the courthouse last Tuesday Tues-day night. The meeting was attended by some fifty interested farmers. Four bushels of wheat to be treated with strychnine and distributed to everybody every-body in town were contributed by J. S. Jorgensen, Harold G. Jensen, James Jeffs, and Carl Bott. This wheat will be treated according to the government govern-ment formula, and will then be distributed dis-tributed at about 25c a quart. All widows will be furnished free, however. how-ever. The street extending north and south past the district school will be the dividing line and the east side committee Is composed of A. A. Day, Heber Frandsen, and John S. Jorgensen, Jorgen-sen, while C. A. Winters, Marenus Petersen, and one other compose the committee for the west side. James Petersen, president of the local club, will act as chairman of the joint committee com-mittee and adjudicate any differences that may arise. Each individual Is to gather and preserve all birds found dead on his premises, keeping them in a box or something where cats and dogs may not reach them, until the final day of the contest, when the birds collected by both sides will b publicly counted. A like campaign conducted by the Emery Farmers club was a huge success, suc-cess, five days work netting 4500 birds, actual count, which couldn't have been more than seventy-five per cent of those actually destroyed. The work has continued since then, and it is confidently believed that not less than 8 500 of these farm pests have met their Waterloo In the vicinity of Emery. This record may be reached here also, it Is thought, as there could not be a better time of the year to Inaugurate In-augurate such a movement.
