According to Mr. i-Ks letter, the territory of Utah :--ver put in a claim with Congress for money, and it was f.nally carried to " surplus fund. M". Leslie has written a letter to A. Birnes, attorney general, - asking if 'P- can be taken to recover the am- - t r f the appropriation for distribu- - n among the veterans who partici-f-'d in the Indian war, but who did -t receive any pay for their services. '-'V- G-.-n. Barnes has the matter under !-'-i-Jeiation, and he intended to confer Gjv. Spry in regard to it as soon ?s the governor reached home from his -'n.rn trip. T.'is letter from James L. Beity, au- -t of the treasury department, in r-;;y to Mr. Leslie's communication, :i as follows: 'This office is in receipt of your let-t-rof March 1, relative to the Indian a'Uirbance in Utah territory of 1853 '"i your participation therein as a member of Capt.A.Day's company, and a u the typewritten copy of the pay-r pay-r ;' of said company from July 18, 1853, Oct. 31, 1(553, which, agreeable to request, will be filed in this office the claim number S.
