You can't let your kids go hungry "We have access to a microwave in the shelter kitchen for an hour or so each night but I have nothing to prepare for my kids I have no money And even if 1 did you are not allowed to keep any food in your room Today somebody knocked on our door and came in to check under our beds and in our drawers for any hidden food If you get caught with it you can get in a lot of trouble even get kicked out of here And that's something I simply can't afford to have happen" Her children have all been sick since they moved into the shelter — Jeneal just got over strep throat and still has a bad cold If one child gets ill others catch the virus too because they spend so much time together "It's a little hard living around a bunch of people you don't know" Jason "because you says don't have any space to yourself It kind of feels like a motel only its worse It's real noisy all the time And when I first came here and saw those men sitting on the sidewalk I was scared I feel bad for them but they still scare me" -Staying inside is the hardest thing about living in a shelter" says Joshua 10 "because there isn't any grass to play on I want to be a baseball player when I grow up but there's no place to practice now Before I'd go play a game with my friends Marty and Mark I miss hanging out with them but I understand why we're in here My mom is trying to get a job — she feels bad we have to live here until she can get some money But I I yt11(r o A II n 4:- :- i ?
