Show NEW IDEAS AT BRIGHAM the following 0 concise review of ct lite ae seasons work of 0 the box elder high school appeared in the last issue of 0 the educational review A number of things have contributed to tho the success of 0 the box elder high school during the year 1911 1912 among these may be mentioned 1 the tit of pupils transportation expenses by the board ot of education 2 the introduction of vocal music 3 31 bork in Do domestic art domestic science and agriculture 4 the Mot heers class in july 1911 the board of aduca cation concluded that the county high school should be accessible to all students of 0 the county to make it so they agreed to pay the transport transportation atlon expenses of all students who ho were within reasonable distance of the school and to pay all others two dollars per lier week each to pay transportation or to assist in defraying living expenses I 1 at brigham this ruling almost doubled the attendance ot of pupils from out side of 0 erl hant city the board has fulfilled their part of the contract and have expended about four thousand dollars in transportation por tation the introduction of vocal music into the curriculum last fall proved so popular that it was found necessary I 1 to dispense with all other classes during the music period of the pupils enrolled more than enrolled in the singing class which met for an hour each day As a final result of this work the school presented sulli ians ans mikado ili kado jn in a highly creditable manner in practical work the amount has been greatly increased and most sat j Is factory results have been stained ata ined practically every girl gir in the box elder high school elects all the courses offered in sewing and cooking and practically every boy elects the cour courses ses in agriculture agronomy animal bus husbandry and horticulture these subjects are all taught in a most practical way in the laboratories and are very popular two years ago the experiment wag was tried of offering a Com estic science course for mothers mathers the class met with instant success and both last year end and this there were more applications for the course from mothers of brigham and nearby settlements than could be accommodated several grandmothers have enlisted in the course and they declare with greet pleasure and profit the student body has ha salso also been entrusted in a large measure with the management and discipline of the school and they have demonstrated by f their splendid conduct that they appreciate f preci ate the responsibility placed upon them I 1 the standard ot of the school has been raised through the institution or of monthly reviews a and n d th the 6 send sending 1 no out u t of monthly reports each student has been thus notified each month of 0 his big grade an and d standing as have also alio his parents this has resulted irl in more efficient work than has heretofore experienced perien ced more than SO 80 per cent of 0 the students remained during the es ei tire school so that from many points of view the school year of 1911 12 must be regarded a most successful one |
