Aless rs spencer tyson and worked like 1 tr troas olans to ginger up the he traveling men V ha number ol of that ilk that stepped off the trains in this city last la st friday morning mornin kwas was SO BO few that were it not for the white trousers and the three colored band on their hats bats it would almost have been impossible to dis discern ceril them in the common crowd in place of excursionists as otie one report in the salt sait lake papers had it there were not over one hundred drummers according to the best guess obtainable or possibly two hundred excursionists altogether the cime was a farce but bui the ue entertain mei was waa carried out ai scheduled ati l i lf ns train rin ever the 0 it t T lit in lc into the city about nine ocio cr 1 it vms v as run down to the ahead and do anything they liked mayor fishburn incidentally called the at of the visitors to some ot of the good things brigham city boasts of and was heartily cheered during his remarks ile he finished off by tell telling irig the drummers that the city was dry a fact they were undoubtedly ted with but stated that the supt bupt of water works had bad been instructed to have an extra supply of acqua pure pura in the reservoirs and to open the faucets wide at the behe the cites guests mr geo goddard of salt lake coun ell responded to mayor fishburne Fish burna burns welcome C and in a few various places prepared for that purpose and the visitors were instructed to see to it that th tl they got their fill CS c everything izi in the afternoon the big attraction was waa tho the ball aall game between the salt lake a and nd osden ogden counelis cou nells the gaine was waa a splendid eab exhibition of pluck and continued oil OB ii st sax v L f s t gnp THE U go to ANNUAL OUTING I 1 continued from erom ripsi page perseverance and might even be classed in the heart breaking list the wai way those players walloped the ball chased it slid for it fanned it fouled it and did almost everything else in tho the the final category was a caution score was 2624 26 24 favor of salt lake lak a and both teams were give completely out the hurlers in both cases blew up after a few innings and because of oc a dearth of box men on the teams teama nearly overy every one in tho the line up was vas given a ses session slon in the box but the traveling in men en playing enjoyed it the spectators were willing and so the game went on oa until the last man was put out A little row at the plate when a salt lake runner dumped the ogden catcher off the plate with force as he came home created a little ex cit ement from the fact that the catch er retaliated and took a few swings at the other fellow but it did not progress be beyond ond the sparring stage and no one was hurt the evening was spent in listening to an excellent concert by Molle band dancing at the academy and attending the motion picture shows at the opera house and gem theatre A wrestling match had haa been provided for fol at the ball park in which jack Il harber arber tsen promised to throw ten local men within an hour A load of sawdust was dumped on the ground for a mat but nobody went down to see the match so it was not pulled off saturday was just an ordinary saturday the visitors apparently all went home friday night and forgot to come back next day in place of taking care of four or five hundred people over night which the committee had arranged tor for there were only about a dozen made application tor for beds there was nothing doing atall on OB saturday until in the afternoon when mr NV V call and some others I 1 got busy and arranged for a game gama of ball between local players and the vallard team A good game earner was played and the regular saturday Sa Aurda night dance was given VA t the Acad academy effir with tate usual pictures at the moving pictures houses and the great U C T r for the year year of our lord 1912 came to an end those who ho came on friday had a splendid time lime but through the disson dissen tion in the ranks the visitors yi deserted the city and left the people to have hava ony kind of a celebration they wanted in memory of the absent ones the weilt was as chronicled above chairman spencer of the executive committee came into the news office art aa monday morning and asked that a note of thanks be inserted expressing the appreciation of the committee and ogden aud and provo council of the U C T for the royal manner in which they were entertained mr air spencer expressed appreciation tor for the faithful labors of the various committees who worked so tirelessly to make the outing a success and also extends thanks to the people who iio so generously opened their homes to provide sleeping ping quarters tor for the visitors he deplored greatly the fact that so few traveling roling men were present but wants the aiple to know theat those who did cowe come had the time of their lives and and feel very grateful to the citizens af pf brigham city the reason for the split in the organization relative rela tivi s to the outing is wk M cwg li 1 cause the salt lake anc 7 vas tl 0 aft 11 1 it ia the choice ce ot of the place fora for lo 10 I 1 0 jax the e outing Salt lake wanted t to 1 l to lAgoon but ogden and provo T anted tf ti come to brigham and they on out at til tto meeting ef when that matter mailer was de decided in 11 view of the fact that they wr defeated it is stated that salt lake got sore and refused to join w with ith their comrades in making the outing the big success it always la Is for that reason reabon the crowd was small and the enthusiasm thusia sm dwindled before the celebration had gotten halt half through the civic improvement club went to a great deal of work and expense in fitting up a cafe in the rooms formerly occupied by pitt wilson baill nery co in the Weder borg block and were greatly disappointed in the patronage received the same is true with re ref fernee ernce to the restaurants hotels and cafes all of which made extra preparations to teed feed the throng but to and behold there were almost as many basket baskets stul ful left over as there laere ere at the beginning hundreds of beds were provided with clean linen and the rooms were made cool and comfortable all to no purpose tor for nobody cameto came to occupy them and so brigham city feels like she had been unkindly dealt with and the memory odthe of tho U C T outing of 1912 will always bring with it a feeling of die dia gast and displeasure |
