Show Pip In Fowls. The term "pip" is commonly used tc describe a catarrh or fevered condition condi-tion of the mouth of fowls. The symptoms symp-toms consist of the drying of the membrane mem-brane of the mouth and particularly that covering the tongue. The drying of the mucous membrane is caused by breathing through the mouth on account ac-count of some obstruction of tae air passage, or disease of the lungs, affecting af-fecting the respiration. To remove or tear the dried portion is cruel and injurious in-jurious and often leads to the death of the bird. In case of simply drying of the mouth it is sufficient to moisten the tongue with a few drops of equal parts of glycerine and water. In case there Is redness of the membrane or If the hardness at the end of the tongue is beginning to separate, add 20 grains of chlorate of potash to each ounce of this mixture. An excellent remedy Is made by dissolving 15 grains of boric acid In an ounce of water. wa-ter. Both of these solutions are harmless harm-less and may be freely and frequently used. |
