Show B. Y. U. TO CONTINUE SATURDAY SCHOOL The arrangement of the calendar of the present school year at the Brigham Young University, has in some respects been experimental. This has been especially espe-cially true in regard to holding school during the winter months on Saturday. The success of the experiment however warrants the continuance of Saturday schools next year. The teachers, in the main, are opposed op-posed to the plan" as it requires unusal. ly strenuous libors on their part during part year; but when the students were recently given an opportunity for ex pression on the question, a very decided majority voted in favor of Saturday school during the winter months. The authorities of the school take the position that the school is run for the benefit of the students and not the teachers, and accordingly decided in favor of the Saturday school plan. The result will be, as president Brimhall tersely states, to lengthen the earning time and shorten the spending time of the students. The spring vacation has been found to be an advantage as it gives the farmer boys and others an opportunity to work at a season of the year when work is very urgent, and enables them to remain re-main in school until the end of the year. The return to school after the recent spring vacation was very prompt and i satisfactory. |
