Show CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UTAH STUDENTS The five Thompson Scholarships, of the annnal value of $600 each, are af -fered to young men and women, residents of Utah, by the University of California Applications for these scholarships for the year beginning July 1 next must be in the hands of th Recorder of the Faculties of the University of California, Califor-nia, at Berkeley, on or before February 23, 1912. Tnese scholarships for Utati students were endowed by Mrs. Jennie D.Thompson D.Thomp-son of Salt Lake. By her will, which I was probated in 1907, she created an endowment Known as the Willard D. Thompson Memorial Funi', the income to be used for scholarships at Berkeley in memory of her ton, Willard Dawson Thompson, 'who graduated from the j University of California in 1895, arid who died ten years after his graduation. Applicants for scholarship must have completed at least a four years' j course in some high school or other secondary School of recognized standing. stand-ing. Applications will be received from the members of the graduating classes of the curret t school year, as well as from high school graduates of former years who may or may not have continued con-tinued thtir studies in colleges or universities. un-iversities. Applicants must be possessed posses-sed of sound health and good moral character. Among applicants possessing these qualifications selection will he made upon tne basis of scholarly work and pro.nise While the appointments will be for one year, Thompson Memorial Mem-orial Scholars may be reappointed at the discretion of theUniversity. The successful applicants for these scholarrhips may pursue at Berkeley studies in the Colleges of Letters, Social Science, Natural Science, Commerce, Agriculture (which includes the University Univer-sity Farm, at Davis), Mechanics, Mininsr. i Civil Engineering,Chemistry,and Medt-! Medt-! cine. Courses are given also in Law, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Art, and a pro- i fessional training in Astronomy. Among the department of instruction at Berkeley are Philosophy and Psychology, Psy-chology, Education, Jurisprudence, History, Political Science, Economics, Anthropology.SemiticLangujges.Orien- 1 tal Languages, Celtic.SIavic Languages, Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Geography, Geo-graphy, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Hygiene, Anatomy. Pathology Path-ology and Bacteriology, Palaeontology, Geology, Mineralogy, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineer-ing, Irrigation, Mining and Metallurgy, Drawing, Architecture, Agricultural, Horticultural, Entomology, Military Science and Tactics, Physical Education. The successful applicants may begin their studies by enrolling in the Summer I Session, which will be in progress from j June 24 to August 3, or they may begin their work at Berkeley witn the opening open-ing of the regular term, on August 16. The Summer Session of last year, with a faculty not only gathered from the University of California but from other j leading American Universities, brought j together at Berkeley a body of over : 2,000 students. The approaching Sum-! Sum-! mer Session will probably be of similar size. These Thompson Scholarships are exclusively ex-clusively for Utah students. |
