Show MERCUR CUPID SENDS CRY FOR HELP The fume of Mercur is deBtincd to go abroad on the land ae the home of eighteen eight-een young men who are pining for love and the young woman to go with it. Nestling on the side of a mountain top, Mercur ia n lonely place for bachelors, bache-lors, and revericd mind-pictures of a bit of femininity to cheer the lonesomeness of bachelor cottages have caused the pining eighteen to face the world with their secret they want wiveB, and they don't care where they come from, just so they will come to Mercur. In accordance with their silent dc-terminaMon dc-terminaMon to be married before the spring thaw comes, these bachelors, numbering amongst themselves some of the most prominent young men in the community, have organized a club, elected officers and oppointed regular meeting dates, and announced in published pub-lished statements that they invite correspondence cor-respondence with marriageable young women from any place at all. Wedding breakfasts and a happy ever afterward are assured. The organization of the club and the appeal that the local Cupid be helped out by young women from other parts of the country, came about as a resulf of a plan started by local benedicts to ask the city council to tax all unmarried men in the city. The latter declared they should not be taxed, since they were willing to be husbands, but couldn't fi.id the girls without sacrificing sacrific-ing their bu.-iness by courting trips int i strange cities. The following statement was drawn up and signe b" the eighteen members mem-bers of the Bachelors' club: We, being full fledged citizens of the United States of America, State of Utah, City of Mercur, having attained the age of twent-one years and upward do realize the full necessity of involving ourselves in the bonds of holy matrimony matri-mony and do hereby announce to the unmarried women of the State of Utah and surrounding states that we desire to become acquainted eitner by correspondence cor-respondence orotherwise with anv single lady having matrimoi.ial intentions.
