His latest television special, "Another Evening With was so enFred Astaire, thusiastically hailed by critics and public that it's due to be repeated Monday at 8 prm. on Channel 4. Astaires TV debut, "An Evening With Fred Astaire, won nine Emmy Awards and was also repeated because of popular demand. Astaires screen roles span the years from 1933. His name has become synonymous with musical comedy, but in his most recent films he has delved into a different type of char acterization. Highly praised for his straight dramatic role in "On The Beach, he is now working on a straight comedy non dancing role in The Pleasure Of His Company. He has become an author as obligation! e well. His "Steps er. autobiography, In Time, is a top sell- ASTAIRE was born in Omaha, Neb., May 10, 1899. Accompanied by his sister, Adele, he staited dancing lessons that led to his career at the age of five. Fred and Adele went to New York a few years later, studied dancing there and in 19U, made their New York debut at Proctors Fifth Avenue Theater. Next came a apprenticeship on the three vaudeville circuits of the United States and Canada as "Fred and Adele Astaire in New Songs and Smart Dances. They opened in their first big show, Over The Top, starring Ed Wynn, In 1917. Then followed a succession of stage hits both in New York and London. The brother and sister continued as a team until 1932, when Adele announced her retirement to marry Lord Charles Francis Cavendish, son of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Continuing on his own, Fred had a Broadway run in "The Gay Divorcee.
