Show MORE PEOPLE NEEDED HERE IN UTAH During the last few years thousands of farmers in the middle-west, and thousands of dollars, have gone into Canada, Oklahoma and Texas. This has been the result of the well-organiz.xl effort from Canada and the southwest and lack of competition on the part of the west and northwest. It is not only of advantage to the states in the newest west, but also to the states in the Missouri Mis-souri river valley, that the resources of the western half of the continent should be developed and its valleys peopled. The history of pioneer movement has been, since the settlement of our country that people have moved due westward across the continent. For example, the I eople of Virginia settled Kentucky, the Kentuckians settled Missouri, Mis-: Mis-: sourians are settling Arkansas, New Mexico and Arizona. Colorado has drawn most largely from Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Illinois. The great ! railroad trunk lies likewise run almost 1 due west. The natural drift of population popula-tion is along the lines of least resistance and from the Missouri river valley it should be to the mtermountain and Pacific Pa-cific coast states. With a lack of organized or-ganized opposition this stream has been diverted very largely to Canada, Oklahoma Okla-homa and Texas. Today the Missouri river valley is furnishing fur-nishing more people and more money to the new sections than from any other territory, because of the fact that the surplus earnings are large and a great many farmers who liomesteaded or bought their land at a low price are a: e to sell out at a big profit, and they ve.y naturally figure on uun g the sanii tiling over again in a new country. These p :ople are going to invest their money i:i land somewhere. The only question, from the standpoint c f che wes;ern ban! -er's interest, is win. re they will go and what land will tney buy? You can make up your min i that some of the people will move son.enere and many will keep right on putting their money in land. i- or the first time there is an organized organ-ized movement to direct this ti ie of emigration westward. i he movement h s neen started by the publishers of The Omaha Bee and The Twentieth Ceiuuiy Farmer, which publications have been ilevoting a verv large amount of space and a very considerable effort i;i this direction. They have likewise aroused, the activity of. the interested railroads the Hid system, the Harn-man Harn-man system, the Northwestern and the Chicago, .Milwaukee & St. Paul. In order to promote their work, and as a means to this end, this publisher lias organized the Western Land-Products Exhibit, which will be held in Omaha in January, l'-ill. There will be exhibits from every western state. The object of this exposition ex-position is to bring a practical demonstration demon-stration of wh .t the west can do, direct to the people or the Missouri river valley, val-ley, it will be an actual and autu .-line demonstration of what can b groA-n, the cost of production, of the tinancia. returns and of the conditions undei which crops are produced, so that interested in-terested parties can obtain practical an . accurate information. 1 his exposition is the means of also an using interest and activity in the inter-mountain and Pacific slope statts in the general movement and promises to be most effective. ! Here is food for thought for the bank-, bank-, ers in the Missouri river valley and in i the intermountain and the Pacific coast states. This movement is distinctly to j the interest of every western banker, and he should t;.ke advantage of the i general movement by doing what he can i in' his own community to divert the I stream of emigration and the flow of money, which has been going to Canada and to the south and turn it to its proper channel the newest west.
