Show SAN PEDRO HAS EYE ON EMERY The work of a surveying party in the neigh oorhood of Hilltop, a sid-j sid-j ing on the local branch of the Denver and Rio Grande, has started the rumor ! that the San Pedro is preparing to construct a railroad to the Emery I county coal fields. The lii.e, it is said, ; will extend from the mines to Nephi, ; where it will connect with the company ' s j : main line. j i The report is considered plausible be- I i cause of the fact that the Denver and 1 Rio Grande has in the past been hauling j the coal which has been used by the San j Pedro, and it is thought that the latter company would not hesitate in constructing construct-ing the new line if by that means it can eliminate the extra expense. There are also persistent rumors that the Denver and Rio Grande is contemplating contem-plating the building of a road from the termination of the Marysvale branch to Los Angeles and San Diego. Now that the Western Pabific gives the Goulds an outlet to San Francisco, it is evident I that a line to Los Angeles would also be of assistance and would compete with the Salt Lake Route, as does the Western West-ern Pacific with the Southern Pacific. I The fact that the Rio Grande main line is to be doubled tracked might mean j one of the first steps toward the begin-I begin-I ning of the work. Price Advocate, i |
