Show UTAH STATE FAIR TO BE RECORD BREAKER j J. G. McDonald, president of the j Utah State Fair association, has given I out an exceptionally optimistic interview regarding the 1910 fair which will be held in Salt Lake l.'ity on October 3rd to 8th. j "Two years ago we had an aggregate ! attendance of one hundred and twenty I thousand," says President McDonald. I These figures will undoubtedly he exceeded ex-ceeded this year if the weather is favorable. favor-able. Last year cold ami rain brought tne totals down to ninety thousand. In 1910 there were more than ten thousand three hundred separate exhibits at the fair. The indicitions are, indeed it is now a certainty, that many exhibits in excess of this splendid ' tal will be shown at the Cuming fair." More money is being expended in prizes this year. Altogether there will be fifteen thousand dollars in cash prizes distributed among the exhibitors ; besides twenty-four cups and seventy medals. These prizes, it should be understood, un-derstood, do not include six thousand dollars apportioned to the speed department depart-ment and which will be used in the races. Another feature that will be pleasing to patrons of the fair is the great amount, four thousand dollars, to be expended ex-pended in free entertainment. In past years it was necessary to buy grand stand tickets in order to see the best of the open air attractions. This year it has been decided to give everything in the open, so tnat persons who have passed the gate may see it without additional ad-ditional charge. The fair association believes be-lieves that the public will respond in increasing in-creasing numbers to the better and less expensive entertainment, and that in this way the fair will recoup the money that was obtained by the grand stand in the past. On September 10th, Secretary Horace S. Ensign said that the entries of more than one hundred and fifty exhibitors had been received, a number far in excess ex-cess of any previous year, while the space in the various buildings was rapidly being exhausted. |
