Show Our Resources That Emery county is to become one of the greatest counties in the fairest state in the Union is evidenced by its natural resources that are as yet undeveloped. unde-veloped. Our mountains of coal have drawn the attention of the eyes of the West and have caused the present great railroad agitation, the results of which will surely be realized in the near future. At present there is one live company operating in Emery county known as the Hiawatha. They have been somewhat handicapped onaccount of having insufficient insuf-ficient and irregular cars, but the stringency string-ency is nearly over, and the whole town is alive with the hum of industry. New buildings are being erected and every preparation is being made to make this camp one of the most prosperous of the west. Another new camp is to be opened up in the near future between Hiawatha and Mohrland. It has not yet been decided de-cided by the promoters whether the town will be located on the Emery county aide of the line or not, as the company holds property on both sides of the line. Everything points toward the establishment of the settlement being be-ing placed in Emery county. This project pro-ject is headed by Representative Anderson Ander-son from one of the northern counties. A spur will be run from the new mine to the Castle Valley railroad. Something like a year ago a railroad survey was made through Huntington canyon with the idea of tapping Emery county coal and striking the Union Pacific on the other side of the hill. This survey cost the company thousands of dollars. The Rio Grande also made a survey through Emery county and Salina canyon some years ago when they owned coal land in the Salina canyon can-yon district. ' This survey with blue prints has finally been turned oyer to the Eastern Utah Railroad company, which company has been organized for the purpose of tapping the great wealth of Emery county. This company has already received the support of a part of the people of the county who are willing to give them the right of way and do anything in reason for the development de-velopment of the new road. Again the great expense of the present pres-ent surveying party in Salina canyon moving this way is evidence that the company interested means business. They have already seen the advantages held out by Emery county and are anxious to get their road in. There seems to be no definite knowledge know-ledge ai to who is doing this work. Coal ip not the only thing that our county offers. She will be known in the world henceforth for her honey, her oil and her agricultural products, such as sugar beets, alfalfa seed, fruits, and grains. Her gypsum and alum deposits are among the greatest of the world. It is also firmly believed 'besides these that a large deposit of uranium has been recently discovered in Emery county which if it proves to be what is expected, expect-ed, will make the county famous. There is also a deposit of paint containing an oil base which makes it the rich est deposit de-posit of the kind known. The great cause of the slow development in these different lines can be summed up in a few lines. These claims are nearly all held by men who have no capital of their own for development purposes, and they are waiting anxiously for the man with the capital to see what they have and help them to work up these several industries. Emery county is very poorly advertised, adver-tised, and although we may have all the advantages in the world, unless we wake up and begin some scheme to tell the world what we have we will find ourselves our-selves as poor as ever a million years from now. The county commercial club seems from all appearances to be a dead issue. Men who ought to be pushing push-ing have too much work to do to attend to county development work it would seem. Some people are getting tired of auch slovenly business. A meeting of representatives of the different clubs was to have been held at Huntington some time during the last stake conference, confer-ence, but nothing was done. The meeting meet-ing was never called. We'll never carry car-ry the information to the world if that is the best that can be done. Look up, be mighty men who have this thing at heart and see what the hands can do! Our county has a right to be heard and you have a right to sound her trumpet. |
