Show w! h t r The h; j Men As Mayors High-Typ- e & t 1 PRESTON This friendly and progressive city of nearly 5,000 residents was first Incorporated in A pul of 1913 and chose J. N. Larsen as its first official mayor. Mr. Larsen, together with seven o.her succeeding mayors, are still with us, and recall many interesting accomplishments during the growth of the city, Of the former men who held this city's highest office, only two, George Crockett and Joe Marron, ha-.passed away. T. R. Bowden recently moved to Idaho Falls, w hve he is manager of the First Security Bank in that city. J. N. Larsen served as mayir for two terms. He first came to Presitn in 1906 from Logan, where he was serving as Cache county clerk. He was asked to come to Preston and open thj city's first bank, Idaho State bank. Pure spring waters from the mountains in Cub River canyon were piped into the city to much of the water pumped from wells and stored by soma families in tanks in attics of their homes. Niphi Larson was mayor when the first water works system was completed and it was during ms three terms In office also that the citv's first sev.er system was ailed. Mr. Larson also operated one of the e?iiet mercantile stores in Preston on the site now occupied by American Food Store. The building is still owned by Mr. Larson. Lorenzo E. Hansen became one of the citys most popular mayors In 1925 and was reelected for five consecutive terms serving from 1925 until 1935, during most of the depression years. However the city maintained its standing, extended its city 111 tits, water and power systems, piped Water to its cemetery and put in a new street lighting system which, remained until a year ago. The city also purchased a city airport and nade improvements on the site, west of the city. Succeeding Mr. Hansen as mayor was T. R. Bowden, who served two terms, 1935 to 1939. The new steel water system replaced the old wooden system and the city was refinanced. It was during the two terms J. Cliffotd Forsgren served as may or, from 1939 to 1941, that the present disposal plant and outfall line of the city sewage system wad completed. Mayor E. A.
