The Brigham Y'oung college first opened for the admission of students on September 9, 1878, in rented rooms in the Logan City Hall. During the years 1883 and 1884 a large school building, known as the East Building, was erected on land purchased from the Thatcher e'ate, immediately west of Thatchers mi'l. In 1897 and 1898 the growing needs of the school led to the election of the West Building. To these in 1905 and 1906 weie erected the Mechanic Arts Building, and in 1908 the Nibley Hall, a gift from C. W. Nibley.
