Senior Marcus Begay, pitching in his last game as a Fredonia Lynx, gave up one earned run in five innings. He struck out nine, .was touched for five hits (all ' singles) and did not walk a bat r?(gS? W Cowboys end season By Rory Brunner Simmons went all the way on the mound for Fredonia, giving up seven runs, five of them earned. He surrendered seven hits- - six singles and one double-struc- k out six, issued two walks and hit two batters. So the Lynx baseball season comes to an end as the most successful season for Fredonia baseball in several years. They won eight games and lost seven in conference play, good enough to put them in third place in a conference where only the top two teams advance to the state playoffs. Many players contributed to the teams success. Senior Marcus Begay was not only the most consistent pitcher on the team, he was also a very good hitter. Richard Wheatley started out the season at the catching position but he also spent alotoftime at first base. The bat ofWheatley made him a tough out- - he nearly always managed to get his bat on the ball. Through the first half of the season, Nate Tait had the best percentage on the team. In the last several games he was forced to g endure a hitting slump, but he didnt let the batting problems effect his defensive performance. From his centerfielder position he covered a lot of ground and was without a doubt the best outfielder Fredonia has seen over the last several years. Justin Anderson was moved around to several different positions in the field- - pitching, first base and third base. Over the Despite outhitting the Juab Wasps nine to three, the Kanab Cowboy baseball team exited the 2A State Tournament in the opening round on May 2. The Cowboys failed to utilize a distinct advantage at the plate, leaving H runners on base over the course of the game. . Meanwhile, Juab fed on the Cowboys, who mistake-pron- e registered six errors in the contest, as Kanab stumbled late and lost a 2 decision. After four complete, Kanab pitcher Sam Noel kept Juab in check, allowing no hits and one unearned run and the score was tied at one apiece. A disastrous fifth changed that.
