Show 15 Election Special Fredonia Town Council election questions SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY MAY 10, 2000 The following questions were asked of the two Fredonia Town Council candidates Joy Jordan and Barbara Kimball. 1) If elected, what would be the first thing you would like to accomplish? 2) What one concrete idea would you explore to attract economic development? 3) What would you say is Fredonias best asset? 4) What relationship do you perceive Fredonia should have with the federal gov- ernment? 5) What improvements would you like to see in Fredonia? 6) Does Fredonia need a city manager? 7) Parting thoughts, final comments, or endless rambling... to expand. 2. The ultimate, long-rang- e goal that I have been working on for eight years is to get the infrastructure in place so Fredonia can diversify and get some decent-paying jobs. That is where I would continue striving with wastewater, water, low power rates, natural gas, roads and an attractive community. 3. Fredonias best asset is her people. A close second is our climate four distinct seasons without extremes. 4. A friendly relationship. We MUST be at the table with them to protect ourselves; we MUST support them. Otherwise, they have to submit to other pressures which do NOT help us. The Federal Government is not going away. We need to appreciate the fact that nearly every family in town has had a job with the government at one time or another, or benefitted some other way from the presence of their employees in town. To be hateful with them, does not help any of us. 5. 1 would like to see the townspeople continue to clean up and beautify our properties. I would love to see the citizens united in common goals, such as an aboveground Town Office, and an au- ditorium. this past Council has been trying hard. We will continue to do so. Sitting still is impossible. The most important activity for Fredonia right now and indefinitely, is to PLAN AHEAD within the legal rules and regulations of this land. I feel I still have some service for the community left in me. With your vote for me, and the help of our wonderful employees, we can continue marching forward. Thankyou foryour past support. Barbara Kimball I would work to see that the sewer system is up and running so that the Town can get back to normal with streets repaired and 1. people are trained to do this work and should be allowed to do so. The beautification of Main Street has been in the works for many years, and is funded for the most part by ADOT as the State of Arizona wants travelers in the the state to carry away a good impression. This program is going on all over the state. So it would be great if all of us would do a little beautification on both our property and possibly other areas throughout the community. I dont feel that we should take peoples rights away, hard-workin- them, but we dont have to sleep with them. 5. The community needs to think about a new swimming pool. The one we have was built in 1961 and has done well for many years due to the fine care given by the Town personnel. Many years ago I wrote and received a grant for a very nice tennis court, but now it is in bad repair and cant be used. This needs to be put back into good repair. Street lighting is poor and lights need to be added. Drainage needs to be addressed as well as sidewalks. 6. It depends. 7. It is the job of the Town Council to make policy and have these policies carried out by the staff the construction mess a thing of the past. I will focus on Fredonia and the needs of the Town. There are other groups working on these projects such as People for the USA. I support their endeavors, but I would like to work for the immediate community. 8 The tennis court needs to be repaired so it can be used. There needs to be a concrete slab at the parkfor roller blades, skateboards, and other fun things. Streetlights need to be added for safety. 2. I feel that the most concrete idea for economic development is to encourage our own people that is hired to do the jobs. These good for the community also. 3 . I would appreciate your votes on May 16. 1 am educated, experienced, a bit frugal and have a logical mind and lots of good common sense.
