We are especially proud for our 13 year old choir member, Lara Clayson, for her solo perfor- mance in Handels Messiah. As part of the choir experience, we dont just learn words and tunes, we become musicians. This is achieved by great attention to techniques and skills such as correct breathing to sup- .port singing, proper vowel place- ment, diction, dynamics, ind much more. The Southern Utah Childrens Choir is a supportive, non-copetitive, training choir open to young people in the south-- , -- ern Utahnorthern Arizona area. Children have a natural love of music and abilities that often go untapped if they are them to learn and perform, yet provides the security found in a larger group. Some kids are natural performers, and those that want to do solo work are provided the opportunity, but many are not ready. A choir provide! that safe haven for musical development and ex-W- e pression without solo perfor-ver- y mance pressure, Particular attention is given to teaching the correct way to use the voice to avoid stress or damage. This is very important due to the changing nature of the young voice. Through fun visualization and ki-- nesthetic (body movement) ercises, singers learn correct posture, correct breathing, and warm-up- s, tone Loretta Clayson directs the Southern Utah Children's Choir in this year's vhrisimas presentation of production, Handel's Messiah.
