Trapping is done by a helicopter herdingthe animals towards a long wing-fenc- e and then into a corridor and corral trap, all built with netting material to minimize injury. Its a tricky process to make everything work as planned. This year was more difficult than normal. The open snowless rangelands had not congregated the animals. Therefore, more chasing and herding were necessary to move the animals towards and into the trap. The first day of trapping yielded approximately 100 animals. These were taken to Nevada in return for the desert bighorn sheep obtained from Arizona that were released in the monument several weeks ago. Utah will now provide some bison to Arizona in January from the Henry Mountains herd in Garfield County. Trading wildlife among states is a common practice. ducers depend on.
