Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 24, 1S23 Community Letters Continued from Page 4 when one week Dixie gave all of us a Scotch blessing about gossip and how gossip hurts people, then the next week came up with Back-SeWriter. I have never subscribed again, because the time I would think it was done-n- o more Back-SeWriter, sure enough it would rear its head again to try to embarrass and belittle someone, so Ive never subscribed again, nor will I after todays unsigned slurs. Because the SUN is our only source in town of news, Ive lately been buying a paper and I did today-- I drove over to my house and sat in my car and when I got to and read a part of the gutless unsigned letter signed only The Reality Checker, I didnt even get out of my car, I drove straight totheSim printingoffice-- I wanted to find out and thought I could find out the name of someone who had submitted an unsigned lete was no ter, but not the I who to find out was going way wrote this gutless, ignorant havent even read it all and Fm still mad as hell. What it smacks of to me is its at at case-ther- re-mark-s-I a replacement of Back-SeWriter-it- s just as stupid and libelous as that was. I realize from your editorial in the Sun about two weeks ago that you and your bedfellows of course are less crude-yo- u would never say to go to bed with, but believe me I will, because I think you are just that with our elected officials and environmentalists, blah, blah, blah, and you make that clear in every paper. I no longer want my name on your mailing list for even the at advertisements-thankyo- u I will get them elsewhere, but believe me. I do want my name signed to this! You have insulted a lot ofpeople if not by personally writing those depends on its 22,000 employees to be fully informed and to freely speak their minds. Its acceptable to attack ideas, but not each other. Our company is ranked number one in its industry by Fortune Magazine, and is ranked in the top 50 of all American companies. There are many reasons for success and an environment of informed debate is one of our key drivers; people who use fear and intimidation tactics are not successful. Regardingthe City Plaza Plan, I am not informed enough to know if its a good idea. However, I think Kanab residents will make a serious mistake to reject it sim- ply because city government might be involved. Almost every vibrant American city directly or indirectly owns and manages airports, business development districts and other enterprises to g stimulate the economic of their communities. They use revenue bonds paid for by the business partners as well as various taxes to fund these enterwell-bein- prises. Viable communities need strong privatepublic partnerships. Neither can flourish without the other. My wife and I will become Kanab residents in two years. We both grew up in small Idaho farm communities and lived in Utah for 28 years before a recent job transfer took us to Houston. We depend on the Southern Utah News to inform us and enjoy every minute we spend in Kanab. John Gisler Houston, Texas Shame on you Dear Editor.I write this letter to the citizens of Kane County, with the understanding that I will alienate some, upset others and probably infuriate most. More specifically I write to those registered voters who did not vote in the last elections and those eligible voters who fail to register to vote. SHAME ON YOU, DONT YOU DARE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT, - From tho big book with lots of words we lose by default. The following is for the people who do not own a dictionary. The definition of OPINION is: 1. a: a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter, b: Approval, Esteem. 2. a: belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive, b: a generally held view. 3. a: a formal expression by an expert of his judgment or advice. b: the formal expression (as by a judge, court, or referee) of the legal reasons and principles upon which a legal decision is based. If you keep doing as you are doing, or I should say if you keep not doing what youre not doing, we will continue to lose those freedoms we Mr. Webster do have. It is Dear Editor The Fredonia Fire Department then, that those of you to whom .. says I have addressed this letter be- gin to complain, gripe about things and wish things were like they used to be. Too late my friend, exercise that responsibility that is afforded to you sometimes every year, mostly every two years, and most assuredly every four years. It is the one active role in our government that every citizen can and should participate in. Voting is a right, however, it is more of a responsibility than a right, and we are responsible to the future generations of this nation to provide them with the same, if not better rights and freedoms that we enjoy. The only way in which we can provide those rights and freedoms for our children and their children, is to take an active role in our government is accepting the! and Junior Fire Department would like to say thank you to everyone who opened their hearts (and cupboards) to help us to feed the needy families in our community. Thanks to you all; both at our Halloween Haunted Fire House and during our food drive on Monday, November 15, and of the country there were three or four people working at the BLM office watching over the area and working with the best environmentalists, the Cattlemen. Today the area is still about the same size, but there are fewer cows grazing our free land and four or five times the number of BLM personnel. My plea to all people is, Please stop all legislation placing our land into wilderness. Dont close any roads, leave all roads open so everybody can use this great land. Let only local government and local people make policy concerning land in our area. Not outsiders. Stevan C. Turner Kanab, Utah Dear Reality Checker co SUN Editor: Were sure we wont be the only ones to react to your letter to the editor November 17. For us to just lay down and let you, or the federal government, dictate what is going to happen to our land is When I first came to this part Now it behooves you to learn the difference between a Democracy (mob rule) and a Republic (rule by representation). (2) There was no election held on the forming of the GSENM, so no one won or lost an election, hence disgruntled voters does not apply in this situation. (By the way, I have yet to meet a member of the PFUSA who is bored!) It has yet to be determined if President Clinton established the Monument legally. No matter how elections go, or where the power lies, if the rights and freedoms of the citizens are at stake, true patriots (PFUSA) will not roll over and stay asleep. It is also important for you to probe the PFUSA propaganda for facts. There are ways to have wilderness and to protect the environment besides locking the citizens out of public lands, pri- vate property, and the development of water and mineral resources.
