Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY MARCH 24, 1899 News Utah Highway Patrol For the week of February 27 to the 5th of March, troopers of the Utah Highway Patrol stopped a total of 186 vehicles, issued 88 citations, wrote 110 warnings, investigated two accidents, assisted two motorists, and arrested one impaired driver. In order to be arrested for a violation you must meet three requirements. First, you must be under the age of 21. Next, you need to drive a car. The last requirement is to consume A drop of alcohol. Stacy Chynoweth was stopped for speeding in Garfield County by Trooper Keller, and successfully met all three prerequisites citafor a proper tion. Keller mentioned that she had consumed a little more of the third requirement, she would have completed the check list for a DUI, but as luck would have it, Stacy left just enough beer in the can to get an open container citation instead. Trooper Cluff went on an allweek drugrampage again, which ended in great success. Michael Morris Curtis was the first of ClufFs victims, and was cited for the possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. He was also teased a little for having three first names. Next on the list was Erik Harold Baldwin. A simple speeding violation turned into a Not-A-Dr- op Not-A-Dr- op BLM passenger Woodrow Pierce. This stop originated due to a tail light that was out, and resulted in the two going to jail. Both were in possession of meth and paraphernalia, and Woodrow was additionally arrested for trying to imitate someone named Fred Schwartz. Woodrow finally fesssed up and a $1500 warrant for his arrest was quickly found in Salt Lake City. The Kanab Port of Entry contacted Trooper Whitaker about the odor of alcohol coming from Cody Pudils breath. Cody had stopped at the Glendale rest area, drank a few, rested awhile, then proceeded to drive when he thought he had sobered up. Trooper Whitaker arrived and immediately requested the proper pronunciation of the name. Is it pronounced Poodle as in a dog, or Puddle as in mud? Cody said that neither were right, that it was pronounced with a French twist like Cody forgot that he had been drinking and thought that the trooper was Poo-Dil- l. just trying to be nice. Cody explained how people in the east pronounce his name Poodle, people in the west say l. Puddle, but the proper was Poo-Dil- Whitaker told Cody that if he went to Jamaica they would Cody probably call him Pood-ildidnt seem to understand, and marijuana paraphernalia cita- Was arrested a short while later for driving under the influence tion for the motorist. The proposed rule would update 18-ye- old miningregu-lation- ar s while ensuring better protection of the public lands. The BLM is also seeking comments on the accompanying Environmental Impact State-- 1 ment. The hearings will be held at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel, 2620 West Dunlap, in Phoenix. The first hearing will begin at 1 p.m. A second hearing will begin at 6 p.m. All comments gathered at the hearings will be transcribed by a court reporter and included as part of the administrative record. Our goal is to develop the best possible rule, Acting State Director Roger Hildebeidel said. To do that, we need everyone who has an interest in this proposed regulation to comment. The proposed rule is intended to prevent unnecessary or undue degradation of public land resources by mining operations. The proposal would also improve the clarity and organization of theBLMs existing surface management regulations, found at 43 CFR 3809, which regulate the exploration and development of locatable minerals on lands managed by the BLM. Locatable minerals include, but are not limited to gold, silver and cooper. It would also incorporate policies that the BLM has developed since 1981, the last time the Bureau issued surface management regulations. .'
