Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 27, 1996 Opinion 4 Dixie Speaks In the furor over the granting of County Hospital privileges, in question was how an executive session item ever became public. People were quizzed on who had talked to the SUN, and it was leveled that I was hiding behind the First Amendment and not revealing sources. (Incidentally nobody asked, but if they had, it would've been difficult to remember all twelve people who called!) The most interesting aspect of the issue to me is that the only way anything that's discussed during an executive session becomes public, is if someone in the session repeats it. They are the only ones privy to the information and liable for the confidentiality of said meeting. It's ludicrous to blame anyone outside of the meeting. Someone in attendance in the executive session must of been "ignorant of the process." I would also like to state that I will never apologize for reporting local news that affects our readership, or inviting the public to attend a public meeting that dramatically impacts them. Thanks for the cooperation Dear Editor: The Kanab City Library Board would like to extend their appreciation to the citizens of Kanab for cooperating in the Income Survey recently conducted on the librarys behalf. The survey was conducted as part of the Community Block Grant that the City of Kanab is applying for the library. Special thanks go to Dicki Robinson, Pam Lindquist, Rhonda Button, Carol Peters and Jesse Johnson for volunteering their time to conduct the survey. Thanks also go to the City Office personnel and anyone else who helped cal- culate the survey results. Kanab City Library Board Note of thanks What we don't see Dear Editor: Recently an official from Salt Lake City was in Kanab for a special meeting. This person was here for two days not long enough to really see Kanab, but just long enough to make a first and probably lasting impression. On the way back to St. George to catch a plane to Salt Lake City, the gentleman that was driving asked the visitor, How do you little town of r Kanab? Fine, said the individual, You have a very rustic and quaint little town, BUT IT SURE IS DIRTY! This makes one wonder: Was he talking about the red dirt found on the highways and some on the sidewalk, or was he talking about the dirt and grime of the corners of the block. Had this gentleman walked far enough around town to see what has been allowed to clutter around, in back and even in front of the yards of our community. When I heard this, I took my wife and we toured the community. Then there are the boats. Some are very nice and stored with covers or under a shed. Other boats were in dire need of repair. Next were the campers and motor homes. From what I used to know as tear-dro- p trailers to large motor homes these were also taking up space with tumbleweeds and other weeds growing up around them. Why, Im asking? We have ordinances to have our yards kept free of weeds and unusable junk. Why are we not sendletters? Perhaps, if we could bill all the lots, with homes on or vacant, for a salvage license, we could make the city more money. Better still, have the junk hauled off to a regular salvage yard or to the city dump.
