Trails Club receives grant Recently, the Kane County Hiking and Trails Club received a $2,000 grant from the Utah State Historical Society. The purpose of the grant is to help the club improve, and maintain the locally important Shun esburg Mail Trail. This trail was used in the late 1800s to deliver mail from Kanab to Shunesburg on its way to St. George. The Club plans to install an interpretive sign at the trailhead near the present day rifle range, and is working with the BLM office to facilitate the eventual of the trail. Work should begin in the spring of next year, and representatives from the Historical Society are scheduled toew the trail in December. Anyone with historical information about this trail, or any other local trail, is encouraged to contact the clubs president, Greg Aitkenhead, at 644-550or contact Willow Creek Bookstore at 644-888The Club meets the last Thursday of each month from 8:00 till 9:00 p.m. at the Kanab Visitor Center, and the public is always 4, 4. welcome. his close ties with the program-hi- s wife Cathie is on the board of the local Kanab Headstart program.
