It occurred to me the other day while listening to an oldies radio station, how much times have changed. Lets just imagine what the lyrics of that 50s songwould be today... Oh Johnny get therapy, Johnny get help, give me the space I need to find myself...I want a sweet man, no, not a meat man... Political correctness touches almost every aspect of our life these days. You must be careful not to ridicule, insult or otherwise offend any segment of the population, or there could be serious repercussions. Some songs from the past were definitely what people y to-da- would call sexist. Yakety yak, dont talk back, Under my thumb, I cant Please get no satisfaction dont leave me by myself were just a few that wouldnt be tolerated by NOW. There are a few songs from the past which were ahead of their time, however. The little old lady from Pasedena would be applauded now for being an assertive senior. Message songs are big today. Its not enough to just be correct you also must have something profound to say. The days of I love you...yeah, yeah, yeah, what-so-eve- are gone. The bottom line is that we should probably applaud all this new sensitivity, but it sure makes for some boring song From Orderville comes the following notice about the up- coming refresher driving course. AARP announced that a 55 AliveMature Driving class would be held in November. This class is open to all drivers with special emphasis on those over 55 years of age. There are no tests given as this course is designed as a refresher for experienced drivers. The course is planned to be given November 20 and 21 at 1 p.m. It is planned to give the class at the Long Valley Senior Center.
