He moved to Kanab, Utah about 20 years ago to retire. Evans soon realized sitting in a rocking chair wasnt his thing. He did a few volunteer jobs for the City of Kanab and ended up on the Planning Commission and Adjustment Board. At the age of 70, Evans accepted the job as Kanab City Building Inspector, and held that job for nine years. Evans began his working career as a machinist apprentice at Hughes Tool Company in t f. Me Houston, Texas. Later, he worked at Mare Island Navy Yard in Vallejo, California. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, a patriotic Evans, 25, joined the Navy. After the war, he started a bar and restaurant business in Oakland, California. Two years later, he sold his business and traveled to Guam to work in construction. When Evans came home, he married Juanita and they moved to Florida. The couple adopted two children, Barbara and Richard. Today his children live in Battle Creek, Michigan. When Floridas construction business slowed down, Chic and Juanita relocated to Santa Barbara, California.
