The risk of injuries skyrockets and the possibility of area burnout from overuse becomes a probability. My children and grandchildren have experienced the awesome beauty of Utah in a very personal way, riding their own vehicles (like baby ducks in a row) on the trails, sitting around a campfire at night, hiking down I together from kindergarten to 12th grade. We made plans, had dreams for our futures. We were going to come back to Kanab after college and teach school and coach football. He chose to go on a mission after graduat- ing. I had a few problems and decided to start smokingpot and drinking. Clint then chose to go to college while I, on the other hand, decided to try the school of hard knocks. I was going to be the one to actually graduate with honors from that school HA! HA! Clint then graduated from college and was married to a fine lady and had a child. I failed miserably at jobs, fell into debt because of drugs, and started doing meth. Now I hope you can all follow what is happening here. Clint has a successful job teaching at Kanab and coaching football. But do you know where I am? Well, let me tell you. I am in the Central Utah Correctional Facility! I am serving (two) 15 year sentences concurrently for distribution of drugs. Quite a distance separate our lives. The point I am trying to make is this: I know I have a lot of influence on an abundance of young people in our community. I want to give them a message. Avoid the end I have come to. Do not even start doing drugs. If you have started, and I am an influence on this, I am truly sorry. Please! Please! STOP NOW before it is too late! There are plenty of good things that a person can have fun do- ing that do not pertain to drugs. I ask the younger part of the community to stand up and make an earnest effort. Do things like hiking, play sports, and church activities. These are only a few suggestions. There are many more. Just stay away from the party scene. Take it from someone who has been there. It is hard to get out of that way of life once you get stuck there. To the community of Kanab, I wish to apologize for the things I sustained, such as partying, selling drugs, and trying to take the easy way out. I am truly sorry for this. Kanab gave me a chance once and I threw it away. Now it is time for me to come to terms with the harm I have done, and start giving back to this great community. I will end by saying, kids, par- ents, and grandparents, please abstain from doing drugs. It is a dead end street. Believe me I know. I am at that end right now.
