Show School SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY JUNES, 1996 : VHS Outstanding Students Three Outstanding Students have been selected to represent ) Daniel Nelson among 1996 Melissa has successfully completed several Dixie College classes this school year. Stacey is also a junior at Valley where she is currently Student Body Public Relations officer; she regularly submits articles to this newspaper concerning the activities at VHS. She is also a member of the varsity volleyball, basketball and track teams. She recently took 5th place in the Shot Put at the State track meet. She is FHA his ing Valley High School. Sarah Heaton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Heaton of Alton; Stacey Heaton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claren Heaton of Alton; and Melissa Spencer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spencer of Orderville have been chosen because they exemplify the quality of students at Valley. Melissa is a junior at VHS. She is a member of the Yearbook staff, Stampede (school newspaper) staff, Senior String Orchestra, and Junior Prom Committee. She played volleyball for two years, and she has been manager for the Girls Basketball Team for two years. In addition, Melissa has been an officer for the Long Valley Chapter of FHA; she is currently Peer Educator for the Chapter. She has been elected as a Chapter FHA officer for 1996-97- , and she will serve as a state FHA officer dur- - 1996-9- 7. Valley High graduates Valley High School offers their sincerest apologies to for Daniel Nelson inadvertantly omitting his picture from the graduating seniors of Valley High School. Daniel is in fact, one of our outstanding VHS graduates. 1-- A Good luck Daniel. Sarah Heaton cessfully completed several Dixie College classes and a Physics class from Utah State University. Sarah is a Junior at VHS. Sarah is a member of the Seminary Council, Rodeo Club, Honor Society, and the Senior String Orchestra. She was FFA president for 1995-9She was Sophomore class president, and she has been elected as Senior Class President for 1996-97- . Sarah attended the Utah Range Forum last summer. From this experience, she was selected to represent Utah at the National High School Range Forum in Kansas City, Missouri. She received 6th place for her speech. She recently participated in a national floriculture competition, and her team placed second in the nation. Sarah has also successfully completed several Dixie College classes and a Physics class from Utah State University. We congratulate these out6. torian; she won a gold medal at the state FHA convention, and she will be competing at the national FHA convention in St. Louis this summer. She was elected Student Body Vice Presiand she was dent for 1996-9also elected as an FHA officer. Stacey recently won a state essay contest and had her essay printed in the Southern Utah News. Valley High cheerleaders plan new season The 96-9- 7 Valley High cheering squad is as follows: Head cheerleader-Shaunn- a Frost, Vice President and dance a Secretaiy-Brend- Frost and reporte'r-Jes-sic- a Reese. Our new Advisor is Lori Hoyt, with Cynthia Nelson (a former Valley High Cheerleader) as assistant. Valley High cheerleaders are planning a busy and fun season. On June 7, they plan a junior cheerleading camp for kids At this camp, they will teach some cheers and dance routines, and at the end of the day will present a program showing what theyve learned. Othereventsplannedfortheyear include family portraits (August), and some quilt raffles, with many more projects as time goes by. They appreciate the support of Middle school awards the community, both past and future, and extend their thanks to Kanab Middle.
