Avant is the son of Scholar competition in English Mike and Carla Avant of at last Thursday's Southwest Kanab. He earns a one year Utah competition. Palmer is the scholarship. Congratulations to Susan and daughter of Orval and Gerta Palmer of Alton. Thomas, as well as the other Kanab High School student Sterling Scholar candidates. Scott Nicolaides - Ex. Utah Film Commission flies into Kanab Kanab Tire Center The KanabKane County Film Commission hosted executives from Buena Vista (Disney) and NBC Studios. The guests were flown into Kanab on a state of Utah plane arranged by Utah State Film Commission Executive Director Leigh Von der Esch. Ms. Von der Esch had met production people at the Locations EXPO in Los Angeles this winter, which was also attended by the KKC Film Commission. Invitations were made to several qualified contacts made at the trade show to participate in a familiarization (fam) tour of po tential locations to film in Utah. Ms Von der Esch included the Kanab area in the fam tour because, The Kanab area film com- mission is acting aggressively in renewing its ties with the motion picture industry. They have taken the effort to become certified as film commissioners with the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) and keep close contact with the state office in following up on leads of projects looking for locations. Between the executives that toured Kane County last week, they are responsible for over fifty Southern Utah's television and feature productions each year. The intent of the tour was to make these decision makers aware of filming opportunities in Salt Lake City and Kane County that might be considered in upcomingproductioris. The KanabKane County Film Commission is responding to an ever increasing number of production contacts each week.
