Show Feature Safe Ride Services is back By Barbara Pyles Are you trying to find transportation to your doctor appointment? Perhaps you have to commute as far as St. George, Phoenix, Flagstaff or Salt Lake City. Or possibly as close as Kanab. Well, youre in luck, Safe Ride Service is back in the Kanab Fredonia and Pipe Spring area and they dont pay that much attention to distances. So, just what is Safe Ride Services? Safe Ride is ready to furnish transportation services to and AHCCCS, (ABC-APIPMedicaid members. and IHS) They also provide transportation for WIC appointments, Utah Medicaid and Medicare supplements. They have contracts with these Medica' Plans to pick people up at their homes and to take them to their physicians office. Check with private insurance companies. In some cases A The Kanab Post Office will be open until 12:00 midnight on Monday, April 15 to postmark your tax returns. Safe Ride does work on a cash basis. According to Paul Lauritzen, area manager in northern Arizona and southern Utah, Safe serRide is a vice. The drivers are trained in CPR and advanced First Aid, but if a person needs to have EMTs or higher level care, Safe Ride cant transport them. Safe Ride transportation is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Yes, Safe Ride is ready whenever you need them. A driver lives as close as Fredonia. Several other drivers are based in Page, Arizona. It works best if we have a 24 hour notice before the appointment, says Lauritzen. If people cant give us a notice, we can work around non-emerge- that too. ny SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY APRIL 10, 1996 Not only does Safe Ride take people to doctor appointments, in some cases they pick up and deliver prescriptions and take diabetics to Health Fairs to learn more about their illness. The company has drive vehicles, wheel chair equipped mini vans, and stretcher vans. Basically if its on four wheels, Safe Ride has it, says Lauritzen. He added that Safe Ride also provides charters for buses. Safe Ride has been in operation for about 45 years. Today, the company has offices in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, North Dakota and Florida. Its easy to use Safe Ride. Adopt-A-Teach- er Kanab Womens Civic Club adopts teacher for 4th year By Barbara Pyles The Kanab Womens Civic Club has adopted Kathy Pepper, 2nd grade Kanab Elementary teacher, through the Kids and Kindness program for the fourth year. Photo by Barbara Pyles. with a certificate of appreciation that read: This certifies that Kathy Pepper, 2nd grade Kanab Elementary, has been by the Kanab you adopted Womens Civic Club in order to assist children in developing compassion, a sense of justice, and a respect for all living creatures and the environment. Pepper and her class will continue to receive issues of Kind News once a month. The children have really enjoy readingthe newspaper, says Pepper. The Kanab Civic Womens Club has always taken an active part in education. One of their interests is the Stories Offer Adventure Read (S.O.A.R.) program for 5 year olds. Another undertaking, Project 2000, is a Utah State project where members volunteer to help Elementary School Teachers in the class- - , room. Each year the womens club sponsors two outstanding sophomore students from local area 3-- schools to attend the Hugh OBrian Youth Foundation State Leadership Seminar. They also sponsor a student for the Governors Conference in Cedar City. They annually award a Continuing Education Scholarship to a worthy High School senior. During Utahs Centennial, The Womens Club will present each Utah baby born in the Kane County Hospital with a book. This year, for the first time, the Kanab Womens Club adopted Geneva L.
