Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY MARCH 13, 1996 Opinion Letters Continued from Page 4 We have a few environmental extremists charging around telling the American people that if things arent done their way that nothing short of mass destruction of the West will result. The fact is that nothing could be farther from the truth. There are so many regulations on the books being enforced by the bureaucrats, that virtually nothing can be done on public or private land without the closest scrutiny and a pen-nbeing required. Maybe you can get the permit and maybe you cant depending on the bureaucrat and the whim of some environmental organization. And to add insult to injury, the environmental community sways supposed rational decisions based on false innuendoes, halftruths and outright lies. They are lying to the people of Utah and to the people of America. Whatever it takes to achieve their it goal. But that aside, the real issue is who will control the mineral and energy resources of America. The answer to this determines who will control Americas industrial strength and, ultimately, its destiny. Are turn this control we willing to over to the . religion of Environmentalism? This will mean that every Suddam Hussein of the world will jerk Americas chain whenever they choose because of our dependence on foreign supplies, critical supplies that we are not permitted to produce at home. self-servin- g, self-righteou- s, We all know that its easy to vote for environmentalism when they wave their warm and fuzzies in your face, but the real test is when you take the time to look at the honest facts and consider who you want running America. Just take a look at a map of the State of Utah. Look at where the present and potential mineral and energy resources are located and then look at what the enviros want to control. If that doesnt generate feelings ofconcern then perhaps we have forgotten why we survived and won World War II. It was because ofour resource base and industrial strength. During the oil embargo of the 1970s, we were 33 dependent on foreign oil. Today we are over 50 dependent. A quote from the environmental community itself supports this conclusion. This is a political game. It has nothing to do with science. It has nothing to do with health and safety. Sherry Neddick, Greenpeace, San Jose Mercury News, July 7, -- 1993. I sincerely hope that as our -- Congressional representatives 5 consider House Bills of million acres out (1.8 produc0 (6 million tion) and acres out of production), that they will remember that its not all about warm and fuzzies, its not about the supposed destruction of public lands, its all about control. Its about who will control Americas destiny and will we be or not. HR-174- HR-150- Guest Editorial By Ron Ford Its a matter of time until our school boards face more issues of alternate lifestyles within public schools. Our students demonstrate and carry placards denouncing fear, hate, human rights, separation of church and state, etc. They dont want the lifestyle but will sympathize with those who do. They say, What the heck, let them do their thing and well do ours! Compliment our youth on fairness and integrity. It reflects the character of early leaders in the emancipating process to- ward democratic republican government. They formed constitutional documents to protect citizen sovereignty, and, in anticipating human behavior, delegated to government duties. Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882- ) said, The world is his who can see through its pretensions. What deafness, what stone-blin- d custom, what overgrown error you behold, is there only by sufferance, - by your sufferance. See it to be a lie, and you have already dealt it its mortal blow. Freedom of thought was paramount. Philosophy played an important role in understanding human and natural development. Respectfully, Roger F. Holland Kanab churches. Religion was essential in creating a nation of virtuous people, though church is separate from state. A different philosophy leads our governments and our schools. The new philosophy has a scientific technology foundation. Scientific research efficiently guides decisions for management of environment and humans - the premier organism of evolutionary development. Traditional moral codes and newer irrational cults both fail to meet the pressing needs of today and tomorrow... False theologies of hope and messianic ideologies.... cannot cope with existing world realities. They separate rather than unite peoples. (Humanist Manifesto) A situational morality replaces innate motivation with material awards and teach moral rights and responsibility? No! Educators cannot speak of God? Educators must conform to an outcome-base- d model of technology and scientific research in its many forms of Behaviorism. How can youth have the insight of founding fathers except we teach it at home? We can restore the philosophy of our constitutional documents. Its natural law. Just say, No! to the loss of inalienable rights and perversion of natural principles. In the words of Sir Francis Bacon, Nature cannot be commanded except by being obeyed.
