The first game was at home against the San Juan Broncos. The Cowboys played tough in this come from behind victory. After one quarter the girls were down 17-1but then came back after outscoring the Broncos 15-- 8 in the second to take a 27-2- 5 halftime lead. San Juan battled back in the third and grabbed the lead after three 39-3But the would not be denied Cowgirls 12-8 Broncos in outscoring the the final stanza to win the game 49-4Jaime Houston was the main offense for the girls, racking up 30 points. Mary Dalton added five and three others had four. The next game featured Kanab against a solid North Sevier team. The girls efforts were not enough in this game as North Sevier used the Cowboys first half to win 66-4The Cowgirls played a good first quarter only trailing 13-- but then built a greater deficit in the second and at halftime they were The Cowboys played down 32-1a better second half, only getting outscored by four, but it wasnt enough as they fell short and the Wolves won. Jaime Houston and Becky S wapp were the leaders for the Cowgirls with 10 points apiece while Mary Dalton and Isis Redd added eight each for Kanab. The girls varsity won an overtime thriller in Piute last Friday night. The Cowboys needed two overtimes and three last second shots to win the game 91-8The 23-15 after one girls were down and 40-3- 0 at halftime. The girls still trailed by 11 points 58-4- 7 after three. They decided to make a comeback in the fourth. And they needed every second of that quarter to tie the game at 72 on 2, 7. 7. low-scori- ng 8. 9, 8. 8. - Jamie Houstons basket at the buzzer. The first overtime proved to come down to the wire again as the girls were down three and Mary Dalton hit a three point shot at the buzzer to send it into a second OT. The second overtime period came down to the final :15 seconds when the girls were down by one and Ashleigh Chamberlain hit a rebound basket to put them up by one with :10 seconds left. The Lady Cowboys pressed and Becky Swapp stole the ball and got fouled and was awarded two free throws. She made both of them to seal the game and they held on in the final seconds for the win. Jaime Houston was all over the court, as she led all scorers with 29. Ashleigh Chamberlain was not far behind pouring in 25, including 23 after the halftime break. Becky Swapp netted 18 and Mary the game Dalton added 13. The JV team also played two over last weekend against North Sevier and San Juan but dropped the two despite great effort. Their first contest against San Juan Friday was a hackfest as 59 fouls were called and there was a total of 80 free throws by both teams. The girls were back and forth with San Juan in this contest, trailing 12-1- 0 after one. But the Broncos seemed to pull away as the Cowboys only scored six in the second to make it 25-1- 6 at half. The girls really got the move on in the third outscoring the Broncos 26-1- 2 to take a 42-3- 7 lead. However, San Juan had a big fourth to resteal the game from the Cowboys. Leaders on the night were Adrienne Swapp with a great performance scoring 20 and Casey Daley finding the net for 12. The JVs second game against North Sevier was slow starting for the Cowgirls as they could only score sixteen in the first half and trailed 29-1- 6 at half. High scorers in 45-3- 6. the game were Ashleigh Chamberlain with 13, Casey Daley with 9, while Jodie Button added six and Melanie Dalton five. The JV team also had a last second win against Piute 37-3Ashleigh Chamberlain grabbed two offensive boards and put the third shot in with :02 seconds left to win the game for the girls. They kept a close lead at half, and then 26-2- 5 leading 20-1- 6 after three. Ashleigh Chamber-lai- n led the way with 15 points while Melanie Dalton and Casey Daley each scored eight. The freshman girls traveled to Page to take on the Sand Devils and ran away with a 35-2- 5 victory. Kanab played with Page in the first half with a 8 lead after one and 16-1- 5 deficit at half.
