A coverup we can appreciate. Incomplete. No report on complaint letters sent to the state water board to stop the excess bonding. I asked that the hospital be put on the lists for Community Block Grant and was told that was a county problem. I say its our only health care available within miles and is the combined city and county and state concern for the safety of all road. With only one crossing into the Ranchos, and increasing traffic causing more and more safety hazards. In case of a fire or accident close to the bridge there would be no way anyone could get across the creek. When we bringthese neglected conditions to the City Council meeting, we get the council and the mayor backed in a corner. The best we can get is they will set up a committee. This is another way of stonewalling and running us into deadends and more spent in penalties or interest, hiring one engineer to certify another engineer. Travel time and expenses for the mayor to go north again (time after time). Delivery. The daily drive into the post office for our mail increases congestion on roads, wastes fuel and time especially in foul weather. I believe any person paying City, State and Federal taxes is entitled to home delivery. If that is not possible at least a substation. When is the last time you visited a public library with your child? 1 always thought library cards were as essential to school children as their immunizations. Todays libraries are so much more than most of us realize. Librarians are professionals who pride themselves in their ability to guide, suggest, inform, and locate. Like the yellow pages, its their job to get used. Library programs in so many schools have suffered because of tight budgets. Some larger elementary schools can only accommodate students for half an hour eveiy two weeks. Kids need more time than this to learn to love a library. They need someone to take them oy the hand and show them a window of opportunity. A door to a wider world. Of course, a trip to the public library would mean a loss of television viewing time. It would mean a child would have to make some decisions. Choices beyond which channel to watch or which Nintendo cartridge to plug in. It would mean a parent may have to set an example by checking out a good book. By reading with, a child. These things, however, are not the drawback, theyre the bonuses.
