Show News SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Fredonia wants to buy cable, but TCI says its not for sale By JEANNIE HUNT Contributing Writer The Fredonia Town Council has expressed an interest in purchasing the local cable company. There are several areas in town that do not have access to cable and the council feels that they could run the system and give more complete service to the outlying areas oftown. However, Greg Paladous, general manager of TCI cable says the system is not for sale." In a telephone interview with Palacious, he said that he is interested in addressing the complaints of the Town Council but was only made aware of concerns through newspaper articles. He was not able to attend the last meeting of the council but said he wanted to sit down and discuss the issues on Jan. 4 with the Mayor Paul McCormick and Councilman Brent Mackelprang. He and his company have a pnilosophy that they will do whatever they can to please the customer and he is sending a team of people to Fredonia to assess the situation and suggest solutions. Of 12,000 subscribers within 32 franchises operated by TCI, Fredonia is the only one outside of Utah. TCI must make special concessions for its Arizona customers. Palacious says that he recently joined the Arizona Cable Association to better understand Arizona and its unique needs. In the franchise agreement, TCI is required to have a toll-fre- e number for its Fredonia customers and there was one, but for a while it wasnt working. After it was established, Mountain Bell announced that all 800 phone numbers would be set up according to the location of the state line.
