Spencer ot Glendale announce the marriage of their daughter Tammy to James Sheilds, sor of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Sheilds of Kimball, Nebraska. They will be married June 2 in Glendale with a reception following. Tammy is a 1984 graduate of Valley High School where she was 2 active in BuHalcttcs and was senior class president.James graduated Iron) Kimball County High School in 1982 and is presently employed at Volt Business Communications in Fort Collins, Colorado. The couple plan to make their home in Fort Collins. Kanab Seminary Honors Kanab Seminary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints honored 19 graduating seniors in recent ceremonies at the Kanab Stake Center. Featured on the program were talks by students, Shawna Crosby, David Spencer and Laurie Johnson, musical numbers by Good-fello- w, Khoda Roberts, LaVonne Shawna Judy Shirley, Crosby and Monica McAllister. Congratulations arc extended to Jim Koons on his promotion to Vice President of Operations for Kaibab'v Frcdonia and Panguitch Sawmills. As Vice President, Jim sees to the overall planning, coordinating and allocation oi resources to the logging and sawmill operations at both nulls Jim is a forestry graduate from the University of Utah. In 1968, his skills and background of seven years with the U.S. Forest Service landed him the position of Assistant Logging Manager at Kaibab's Frcdonia mill In two years Jim was promoted to Logmg Manager, and in 1974 he earned the title o Operations Manager. Working with fellow employees, Jim says, I strive to promote team work that results in the understand ing and attainment of company goals and objectives that will enable Kaibab to be a successful business My biggest challenge is promoting change, in order to maximize the opportunities associated with an ever changing economic environment." lo keep up with the changing economy and other factors which influence the forest industry, Jim devotes much of his tree time reading, acquiring knowledge, and Kaibab Industries congratulates Gieg Honey on Ins recent promotion Sawmill Maintenance to Superintendent. Greg began working at Kaibab as an edger taller in 1971. Promoted to laipcnter Helper and later to Millnght, he has 13 years experience m the maintenance area. His primary responsibilities' will be planning and supervising maintenance activities and new construction projects, as well as coordinating the Preventive Maintenance Progiam. The biggest challenge for Greg is keeping all the equipment i mining to avoid downtime andkeep pioductin moving at a steady pace. Gieg says, "I enjoy working on new projects. 1 espedially appreciate all the help and support from the maintenance crew and sawfilers. hey 're a great crew to work with". Greg resides in Frcdonia with his wile Hael and children Kirk 11, Kimlcy 8, and Heather 5. In his spaie tune he enjoys participating in rodeo's, teamroping with his father Don and Nick Wright. 1 nnpioving technical skills. Jim resides in Kanab, with his wile Pat. The Center w ill be closed on Monday lor everyithing because that is Memorial Day. How about that? It used to always be on the 30th but you can never tell w hen things are going to be can you? Fm to tell you the Stirlands will be the ones to entertain us after our Pot Luck Dinner which will be the 10th of June. We can have this as food for thought as we make our calendar out for June. Also wanted to mention the Summer Concerts have started at the Amphitheater in Springdale. These '1 Concerts are under the direction of the Dixie College. A delicious brunch was served to 31 members and guests. It was also the occasion for installation of new officers for the coming two years. Adonis Robinson, past president of the district for Southern Utah General Federation of Women's Clubs did the installing of new officers which are: Clyde Vance, Prcisdent; Phyllis Stewart, Vice President; Anna Deal Black, Recording Secretary; and Juanita Evans was reinstalled as Treasurer. Adonis presented each new officer with a book she had written, entitled: a "Romance of the Black Cat, biography of an early pioneer home. Matt Walters Recognized In Science Matt Walters has been named a 1984 United States National Award winner in science by the United States Achievement Academy. Matt is the son of Lonnie Walters and Sherri Williams and proud Kanab grandparents. Jack and Gloria Crofts, and from Tooele, grandmother Shirley Walters. This award is a prestigious honor and few students attain it. The academy recognizes less than 10 percent of alt American High School students. Walters attended San Rafael Junior High and was nominated by science teacher Barry Bishop. Walters will appear in the Unites States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, published nationally. The Academy selects USAA winners upon the exclusive recommendations of teachers, coaches, counselors or other school sponsors and upon the standards of selection arc a student's academic performance, interesst and aptitude, leadership qualities, resposibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a teacher or director.
