Show I SOUTHS Southern 'Utah Greetings: Figa Twa WE RE NO P2CCLEM HERE JUST MAKING SURE OUR By Denny Foscarini- Letter to Editor Dear Editor, A note of thanks to those who helped with the recent Cancer the drive. I really appreciate following district leaders as well as all the block workers who gave so unselfishly of their time: They arc, Angie Bonham, Susan Linda Morris, RoseAnn Little, Glazier, Janice Martin, Gae Bri nkerhoff, and Esther Heaton. Thanks to all of you. As Mayor of Salt Lake City, I want to inform you that we are anticipating flooding this summer due to rapid runoff of the heavy snowpack in nearby mountains. I would also like to express a concern that I have in this regard. Media coverage of the flooding that occurred in Salt Lake City last year was accurate and fair, but it caused us to lose a substantial number of visitors who pictured the situation as much worse that it actually was. -- Sincerely Sue Lewis County Chairman News reports highlighted the willingness of our residents to roll up their sleeves and work together in a crisis, but they also prompted many . people across the country to think that the impact of the flooding was widespread and disruptive. Many potential visitors decided not to come to Salt Lake City because they believed that the flooding critically affected the availability of our services and facilities. In fact, however, the flooding was confined to several major streets, and the primary inconvenience that visitors encountered was traffic congestion. May Buckle Up 24-3- 1 Letter to the Editor: Dear Editor: I have declared the week of May 1984, as All American Buckle Up Week in Utah. The potential savings in life, limb and property from the regular use of safety belts and child restraints is enormous. Please devote some of your efforts to this problem. Sincerely, The Governor Scott M. Matheson 24-3- Although we expect flooding in Salt Lake City again this year, we KIDS DON'T HIT. THE HIGHWAYS STUDENT PARKING TONIGHT AFTER GRADUATION - is The Kanab City Council investigating several sites for future a future golf course since receiving approximately 5426,000 from the State of Utah. One half of this amount is in the form of a grant and the other half is a loan of 4 Vi percent interest for a pay back period. This loan will be paid back to the State in the same manner as the airport loan is being repaid. That is, the person or persons operating the facility pays to the city an amount that will cover the loan payment. These funds will be used to initiate work on the planning and partial development of the course. At the present time there are three sites being discussed. These are:(l) Jackson Cattle Ranch, (2) Golden Circle Tours property, and (3) the Chamberlain property east of Kanab. Where the golf course will be situated will depend on many factors. Some of these are: (1) cost of running water to the site, (2) agreement between developers and the city on future development of (3) surrounding property and operational costs of the course. We believe that, if we can build a golf course and that it wifi not put a burden on the taxpayers, then it will be to or overall economic advantage. What we hope to see is an course surrounded by a townhousecondominium type with all the amenities that would attract not only conventions throughout the year, but permanent residents as well. Some of the representatives of these properties have met with members of he city council and we hope that we can move expediently forward on this matter. The city council will soon hsve the final dr.ilt of a master plan for the City of Kanab. The Council Planning Commission met with the rep- resenatives from the Five Counties Organization last week to review a preliminary draft of the document. At the appropriate time, the document wioll be made available for perusal ov the citizens of Kanab. In future articles 1 plan to discuss the Special Service District for solid waste ndisposal, and TV. services. Even though this is presently a county function, it has a great financial impact on city citizens. 15-ye- ar 18-ho- le Note of Thanks have significantly improved our storm drainage system, and our city employees and residents are prepared to deal immediately with any situation that may arise. In short, Salt Lake City will continue to function as usual this summer, and all of our services, facilities, and attractions will remain open and available. Thanks for your consideration. Sincerely, Ted L. Wilson, Mayor We wish to give a special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for our lather and husband in his time of need. We would also like to extend out love and appreciation to the many friends and family members for your support and outpouring of love and concern which will forever be remembered and appreciated.
