Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS - Thursday, March 18, 1982 - Page Six Reflections on a Great Basketball Year by Jim Glower ii s liaid to bow out iV as kruiing state champions but that is just what the Valley High School Buffaloes had to do last Saturday night. Atter a successful season as defending champs, the Buffs sucshot cumbed to a and ended up second in the d state to a fine Dugway team. It has been a long season. The kids have had some hard games and have had to work hard to stay on top all year and that last shot brought to a close a year that has seen a lot of progress in a number of players. While disappointed with second place, I'd like to focus on some of the positive things that this season has brought about. One thing, the team and the coach need to know that the Kanab Invitational Tourney Set Its time for that final basketball tourney and have we ever got some fine basketball lined up. From Panguitch (nearly all we have Arlyn Sawyer, Jeff Owens, Gary Owens, Kevin Frandsen, Kay Shurtz, Clint Pollock and others. From Valley Wes Lamb, Ivan Frost, Jim Hoyt, Roger Goulding, Wayne Jones, Jessie Frost, Mack Esplin, Tony Esplin and Mack Roundy. Kanab has put together two fine teams. Team 1 consists of Wally Orton, Kenny Brown, Nick Ramsay, Kelepi Finau, Don (Pete) Glover, Chris Glover and Gary Glover. The 2 team include Hal Hamblin, Ben Johnson, Danny Glover, Tracy Bunting, Kevin Glazier, Arlyn Hafen, Gary Crosby, Gene Drake and ), communities are pleased with the representation these boys gave us. We appreciate the fine athletes they are and more important, the character that they have developed throughout the season. While I cant mention each one by name, there are a O.C. Dugway won the game and the State 1A Championship. VHS News Now has once close. During this past week the whole town has put aside whatever they were doing to travel lo Dixie to watch the State Tournament. The boys did a great job and won 3 out of the 4 games they played. We beat the South Summit Wildcats on Wednesday, the Duchesne Eagles on Thursday and the South Rich Trojans on Friday. Saturday night we played the Dugway Mustangs for championship. They led a lot of the way except for some ties. During the last seconds of the game we were tied and Dugway had the ball. They sunk it in and won in the last seconds. It wasn't the first place title 3b-3- 6 we wanted so bad, but in school history weve never taken 2nd place either. Con- gratulations boys on your great season! On St. Patrick's Day, the Juniors held a Spaghetti Dinner for the community to raise money for their prom. They had a full course meal and it turned out to be a great success. They also want to thank all those who helped make it a success. Also on Wednesday, a bus load of students headed for Brian Head to try out the slopes. Hopefully, everyone will come home in one piece (except for the track girls who are trying to break something on purpose). The term ends Friday so lets all hope and pray we get grades at least once this year. et in snudcrn.IiiJ hy Gerald NT Lund One in Thine Hand (a novel set in modern Israel) Gerald X. Several times the Cowboys found themselves down by 10 to 13 points and would have a scoring spree and come to within three or four points, only to drop back again.
