No one comes from the preexistence to earth life without having a mother. Perhaps the following will strike a familiar chord in you and help you relate to the women in the generations who have gone before you. Before I was a mom . cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or sang lullabies. I slept all night. I never held down a screamso that doctors could do child ing tests or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep. never held a sleeping baby just because I didnt want to put it I 1 1 down. never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. 1 never knew that something so small could affect my life so much or that could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a mom. I didn't know the feeling of wearing my heart outside my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important. I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every' 10 minutes to make sure all was OK. I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment, or the satisfaction of being a mom. Not to forget grandmothers, here are some definitions written by children: A grandmother is a lady who has no children of her own. She likes other peoples. A grandfather is a man grandmother. W hen they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars. They never say,l lurry up." Grandmothers don't have to be smart, only answer questions like," Why isn't God married?" or "I low come clogs chase cats." When they read to us, they don't skip or mind it we ask for the same story over and over again. Everybody should try to have a grandmother, because they are the only grownups who have time. Our roles may change from parent to grandparent, but the feelings we experience continue to define our humanity and keep us connected. 1 1 is Chamber hoard to honor Hansen BOUNTIFUL - ormer Congressmen James Hansen has been the named of this f year's legacy Award by the Davis recipient Chamber of Commerce. Having said that, however, Utah Department of Workforce Services (DWS) business consultant Debbie Nordfelt went on to extol the benefits of working with her own agency. And, in fact, it has a lot to offer in these difficult economic times. The DWS is sort of a one-sto- p shop for people in need of not just work or workers, but unemployment insurance help, child care, food and financial assisinformation, tance, economic training and medical assistance any or all of the above.
