Summer camp at the Hilton for Children with Muscular Dystrophy begins next month. The annual adventures are sponsored by MDA and the staff is asking for volunteers to be the companion for each MDA camper. There are more than 100 people afflicted with Muscular Dystrophy in Davis County. Of those, usually about 15 will be attending the camp. Each helper will participate in the daily excursions such as horseback to riding, trips Liberty Park, the zoo, dances, and arts and crafts classes. Helpers also stay at the Airport Hilton, and have all their meals for free. It's hard work, but so worth it, said Billy Vosburg, whose spouse has MD. It also gives the parents a break from the care needed by the kids volunwith MD. Also, first-yea- r teers are usually paired with kids that requite less care. The helper will return to the hotel with their camper. It is a commitment to care for a person with MD. Some need help dressing and bathing, others do not. Either way, teen helpers will have a great time and learn the rewards of service. Former volunteers say it was a memorable week of fun. A volunteer helper must be at least 16 years old and have no criminal record.
