"Oetting involved with new srudents and the visitors that come to our school is our main purpose as ambassadors," said Aimee Turner, president of the Presidential Ambassadors at SUU. The ambassadors are full time srudents who volunteer their time to help out incoming students and visitors who arrive on campus. They help out with various activities that include welcoming freshman, hosting prestigious guests, and ushering various concerts held at the SUU Centrum throughout the year. Presidential Ambassadors also ho t Thunderbird Weekend, a program designed for incoming freshmen and held once or twice a month, January through May. As ho ts they show prospective students around campus and try to answer any questions the visitors may have about the university and its many programs. The ambassadors were also ho ts for the freshman orientation held last weekend. This year the group oonsiso; of 22 ambassadors. Along with T umer, they are led by Allison Dover as vice president, Tawnya Gardner as secretary and Jake Shewmake as adviser. Last year there were over 50 applicants that applied for ambassador positions, with only 14 of them being accepted. "There are many qualified students that do apply for the position,n says Gardner, "and we have to rum down a lot of people that would do a good job." Each year during winter quarter a new group is chosen to serve as Presidential Ambassadors for the next academic year (spring through winter quarter ). Applications appear during winter quarter in The Thunderbird, and T umer says students who are interested in becoming ambassadors for the following year can fill out an application and rerum it to the Admissions Office in the Administration Building. According to Turner, ambassadors are people that "are really ourgoing and fun, and are not afraid to ask uestions." The selection committee also looks for wellrounded srudents that are involved with the many activities on campus. Dine In, Drive Up Window, or Free Delivery! Having a party or meeting?
