One plus for students is that even with the change to designated zones, there has been no increase in the cost<,[ a parking permit. Still only $6 per year; in comparison with other universities, SUU's parking is a bargain, said Richards, who pointed out that for re.5erved parking spaces at the University of Utah, the cost is $700. Richards said that in terms of access and economics, SUU's new zoned parking can be considered "the best in the stare,"e.xplaining that there is always ample lots at the Ce.ntrum and Manzanita. uFrom the lots at the Centrum, upper campus is about a seven minute walk." With a projected doubling of SUU' s enrollment in the next decade, Richards said the university is anticipating and planning for more changes in campus parking to accommodate the ever-increasing growth. One proposal under consideration includes a hun:Je bus system originating, &om the area west of the Coliseum of Southern Utah. Another area that is ear-marked for srudent parking is the red tin shack. immediately west of the heat plant in the central plant operations area (See map below). President Gerald R Sherratt said that the shack is slated for demolition within three weeks and that 45 student lots will be produced.
