Show THE CAMPUS Sigma Nu gets New Ambassadors chosen new officers - -- - - - By JO ANN LUNDGREEN The local chapter of the Sigma Nu Fraternity was reorganized April 2. Two national representatives from the fraternity's headquarters directed the reorganization. With the reorganization comes a new executive council for the chapter. Jesse Jacobson, a senior biology major was reappointed as the commander. Jeremy Meadows, a sophomore chemistry major, will serve as the lt. commander; Shad Bybee, a freshman business major, will serve as the marshall; Tad McRae, a sophomore business major, will serve as sentinel; Michael Broadhead, a senior psychology major, will serve as chaplain, Adam Haedt, a sophomore accounting major, will serve as treasurer; and John Paller, a business pre-law major, will serve as recorder. The reorganization was completed to better align the local chapters daily operations with national fraternity policy. As the new executive council met on Sunday for the first time, goals were set and an immediate course of action was implemented. At the chapter's first meeting last Monday under the newly reorganized structure, members were supportive and optimistic, according to new council members. The new executive council has agreed to implement changes in the chapter with a two page document that will serve as a framework for the chapter. The operational sanctions document was reviewed by all chapter members, and will be formally agreed to with the national fraternity headquarters. 579 S. However, many SUU students may not kow what the Ambassadors are all about. The Ambassadors were formed so that prospective students and their parents could get a student's outlook of SUU. To accomplish this, the Ambassadors conduct student tours of the campus and host many social events for the prospective students to attend while visiting the campus. The Ambassadors also take trips with President Gerald R. Sherratt when he needs a student representative. The Ambassadors are an "elite group of people who are advised by the School Relations Office, the assistant vice president of student services, as well as by President Sherratt himself," said Sandy Lord-Belknap, Ambassadors' adviser. Students become involved with the Ambassadors through an application process. Applications are accepted during the first week of spring quarter. Interested freshmen are able to apply during the first few weeks of fall quarter. After the applications are submitted, applicants are then interviewed. Generally, 40 to 60 students apply to the Ambassadors, but usually only W are selected. r-------, I Buy 1 Get 1 1 1 1 FREE 1 OJ). Belknap also said that the Ambassadors also like to have individual as well as multi-cultural diversity. After the Ambassadors have been chosen, they go on a retreat to learn the history of the school, meet alumni and learn important statistics about SUU. At the retreat the Ambassadors also learn to specialize in the on-campus tour . The retreat also helps them to get excited about their job, she said. The Ambassadors are chosen and trained to "give the prospective student a very full and well-rounded view of the campus," said Belknap. The Ambassadors' program was reorganized and re-started about three years ago, according to Belknap, and seems to be going well. "Students relate well to other students," she said, "they love to meet a student on campus when they arrive." The new Ambassador president is Jamie Kerr and the new vice president is Courtni Curb.
