However, cries of "What is there to do in Cedar City?" have been echoing across town. While SUU sponsors many splendid activities, the Cedar area also offers tremendous opportunities for enjoyment. Movies, skating, bowling, dancing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, sight seeing, museums, historic walks, plays, tennis, racquetball, aerobics, picnicking, camping, miniature golf, golf, eating and much more. Cedar City offers a variety of dance clubs, including country dancing at the Dance Factory and the Dance Barn, and hip hop at Club Rock. The Basement, a new club in Cedar City, also plays hip hop, but will play modem, industrial and top 40 music as well. A favorite hangout of returning students is the coffee shop known as The Dog & Duck. "The Dog & Duck is a great place to hang out with a bunch of friends," said Jessica Brow, a senior, majoring in interpersonal communications. Brow, from Salt Lake City, Utah, said she enjoys the coffee, sandwiches and atmosphere. "They let us stay as late as we want," said Brow. Cedar City is surrounded by an area that offers endless opportunities for recreational activities. Brian Sullivan, a senior majoring in communication; and history from Elko, Nev., enjoys the outdoor experience, and often goes hiking and sightseeing in the nearby canyons. "There's so much to see, even after living here for a whole year, " said Sullivan. "I enjoy rock climbing with my friends," agreed Carrie Clarke, a junior from Salt Lake City and friend of Sullivan's. Clarke's favorite area~ include Cedar Breaks and Red Cliffs, "It's so beautiful, " she said. Other tourist attractions nearby include Zion and Bryce Canyon, National Parks; Navajo, and Quail lakes; Iron Mission State Park and Brian Head Resort. Coming to Brian Head resort Sept. 24-25 are the Fall Colors Fat Tire Festival and Oktoberfest, which offer a variety of activities from dancing and mountain biking to food and entertainment. "The fall colors against a backdrop of red-rock walls, dark evergreens and clear blue skies is a visual feast for the eyes and should not be missed," said Judy Gubler, Brian Head Town manager.
