Show 'The Student Body' opens for new quarter By BOBBI SLACK JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Students' bodies can now get in shape at "The Student Body." Since its opening at the beginning of spring quarter,The Student Body has become a place where students and the community can go to lift free weights or use the Cybex machines. Chad Smith, an employee at The Student Body, said the fitness center has had mixed reviews since it opened. Smith said they had good feedback during spring quarter. However, they had mainly negative reviews during the summer. Smith said they II cut the hours for summer and people didn't like that much." The hours are going to be extended for fall quarter. The Student Body will be open Monday thru Friday, 6 a. m.- 9 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Memberships can be purchased at the Cashier's Office. Individuals are required to be at least 19 years old or enrolled in college to get a membership. Fees for students are $15 a month or $40 for 3 months. Another option is to enroll in the circuit weight course which is $30 a :':' quarter. Non-students can also get a membership at a higher cost. The membership rate was much higher in spring quarter than it was in the summer because students left in the summer. Smith said that he expects attendance to be much higher fall quarter. Life Phase Fitness Center has not been affected much by the opening of The Student Body . Cheri Stevenson, an aerobic instructor, believes that it is II a good asset anytime you have competition." She said the Life Phase Fitness Center meets the needs of the community and The Student Body meets the needs of the students. Stevenson also added that "different machines in both places supplement each other really well. " Life Phase Fitness Center offers a variety of activities including aerobics and racquetball, while The Student Body has only free weights and Cybex machines. Stevenson thinks the competition between the fitness centers benefit the community.
