Show OF ACCIDENT while standing at the plate with a bat in his hand at the game of ball between lione honeyville and the geo A lowe team of ogden which was played in this city last saturday afternoon jaren G tolman of 0 honeyville flone was struck in the left temple by a pitched ball which ruptured a blood vessel in his head and he died as a result about 1 monday morning after being hit bit mr air tolman started for first base but was dissuaded by cries from the grand stand to let some one else run as it was evident to all that he was seriously injured he turned back and rested in the shade until the inning was over and then went out to his position in the field ile he remil remained ned but a short time however because of the pain that his bis head gave him so throwing off his glove he be walked to the be bench tich and was later taken to the general hospital where he was given medical attention sunday morning he felt so much improved that he insisted on going home and accordingly took the morning train tor the north later in the day ile he became worse and lapsed into unconsciousness in which condition he remained until the end after death the discharged thru the nostrils for some time this sad occurrence cast a gloom not alone over honeyville but over this city and every part of the county where mr air tolman was known for he was a young man universally loved and respected clean in his habits having a splendid I 1 physique and a brilliant mind he was a leader among men he possessed mental attainments that distinguished him and he shad a disposition that was most lovable upon the death of his father the late B H tolman tolle which occula a litt little le over a year ago jaren assumed as umea the responsibility of managers ip of the mercantile institution ution which his father and his sons founded and he conducted its affairs in a businesslike and successful manner ile he was one of the most prominent young men of the Ilone honeyville ward a leader in religious social and athletic circles he has performed a mission abroad for his church and since his return he wa was s an ardent worker in the ward ile he was 27 years of age and recently married a young wife and baby surviving him beside his mother and a number of brothers and sisters impressive funeral services were held in the honeyville chapel yesterday afternoon the building was altogether too small to contain the th throng that came from all parts of the county and adjacent counties and even from idaho to pay tribute to the memory of the sterling life that had ended after filling the benches chairs were here brought in and the aisle was filled to its capacity the rostrum was filled to its capacity and people stood in the hot sun in the doorway or sat in carriages and automobiles under the open windows and the great aud audience leLce was a striking tribute to the love and esteem in which the deceased was held there were flowers in great profusion A bevy of young ladles ladies preceded the hearse from the residence to the meeting house bearing beautiful floral designs of various descriptions and they were banked about the rostrum continued on page five DIES AS RESULT OF ACCIDENT continued f from ra m page one 4 and casket after it had been wheeled into place bishop thomas wheatley wheat ey presided over the services which began with the singing of the hymn the lord is my shepherd by misses daisy and sevena madsen dr R T willey and victor E madsen prayer was offered by bishop john L hunsaker of bothwell after after which the quartette sang providence is over all the tha speakers in their order were bishop wheatley bishop T H blackburn elders J C madsen E P horsley bishop williams of 0 malad elder joseph G mabey of bountiful bishop J IV ure of ogden and president oleen N stohl the words spoken could not have been more eulogistic of bf the deceased and the tolman and hunsaker families they were comforting indeed and the spirit ot of the occasion was one of sweet peace so penetrating that while it melted the audience to tears it filled the heart with loy joy I 1 and consolation between speakers daisy and severia madsen sang who are these arrayed in white and victor E madsen sang resignation the closing number was my father knows and the benediction was pronounced by elder william jeppson were from this city la in at at the ser vices and many friends and relatives from davis county and idaho were there while relatives from every part of box elder county were present the young man who threw the ball his father and mother and several brothers were present and the speakers offered words of comfort to him lie he was heartbroken over the sad affair and is a splendid young man ile has been called to leave shortly to nil fill a mission the services were most touching and yet so full of inspiration that many bore verbal testimony at the tha close that it Is indeed better to go to the house of 0 mourning than to tha house of feasting |
