Show C I 1 BRAR RESOLUTION the city council met in regular session friday evening july 10 1914 minutes of last meeting were read and after stating J C Frederick sons objections clearly to a motion of having the matter regarding the extending of railroad spur to jensen bros mill bill referred to committee on streets and sidewalks and having them entered on the minutes as such they were then approved mayor W T davis and all coun colmen present except K R A madsen and sylvanius Sylvan lus iverson prof A at al merrall appeared and gave a report on the public library ile he also read a letter which he recently received from the andrew carnegie committee in new york stating that they were willing to grant brigham city the sum of tor for the erection of a carnegie library providing a revenue amounting to 2000 yearly for of the file same could be secured mr air merrill stated elated that the library board had deemed it advisable to accept said bald gift in as much as the population would make it quite impossible to obtain more the following resolution was then introduced be it ordained by the city council of brigham city state of utah that in as much as the people of brigham city authorized by popular vote at a special election july 9 1912 the levying of a two mill tax rendering an annual revenue ot of two thousand dollars and upwards for the mainton 0 e n c library thit that we do hereby ad assure adre the andrew carnegie corporation of now new york that the city will continue to levy such tax or such part thereof as Is necessary to yield the sum of twelve hundred and fifty dollars per year for the maintenance of a public library on the condition that the carnegie corpora tion contribute the sum of for the erection of a library building furthermore we hereby authorize the library board to use any unoccupied position of the plat of ground on which the present library now stands for the erection of such building this plat of ground lies immediately north of the county court house Is five and one halt half by twenty rods and has no buildings other than fire station on the west end and present library building near the central part passed and approved by the mayor and city council of brigham city this the day of july 1914 W T DAVIS attest P RUSSELL HUSSELL WIGHT recorder moved and seconded that resolution bo be adopted varlan varian keller app appeared earea in relation to the electric lighting of mantua and asked council to reconsider the matter of reducing the tax on power they feel that it Is tod high mr air C A anderson appeared in behalf of 0 mantua and expressed himself as rates being too and revenue too scarce said it if allowed to pay ac kw they would be able to meet the expense the point la in discussion was whether the power would be excluded for or the use of 0 pumps they want at least 25 h p and council decided to take matter under advisement B C call appeared relative to property owned by peach day committee property has mortgage on la in favor of 0 loo leo jenson worth ot of improvements cost for one halt half acre insurance and two years are due 16 mantua fautua proposition up for discussion question to Is whether it be jut just to sell power to mantua for less than to brigham people who have built and maintained the electric light ays system proposed by mayor that they make the ho rate 3 centi cents and mitter matter was de erred berred report of chief of fire department presented the bid of oluff jeppson tor for 9 a yard to deliver gravel on north main street was wag accepted petitions presented by citizens to make the following alterations and improvements at ball park as aa folio follows ws to remove east board fence surrounding ball park and extend same to east line of city street and thereafter to level off the ground within the new enclosure extend and widen the race track making as aa large a course as possible and to remove the present grand stand back among the trees thus permitting an additional extension tor for the race track referred to committee on public grounds and parks for investigation committee on claims absent therefore no DO claims allowed |
